Since the earliest days of the American colonies the idea of the "American Dream" has been evolving. From the pastoral dream of the colonists, to the dream of freedom for the revolutionaries, each age has ushered in a new ideal to work towards. The generation reared during the Great Depression, and hardened by WWII, sought to provide more comforts and financial freedom to the generations that followed them. Through hard work and economic growth the WWII generation laid the groundwork and the baby boom generation opened the door. The economic collapse has slammed that door shut. Now what?
