   Why does Obama receive 50% more death threats than Bush did?
   
   Since Obama took office the number of threats against his life have increased dramatically compared to his predecessors. Is this because of his race or a measure of the depths American politics have sunken to?

      why? it's a simple fact. he's black and racism is pretty strong in the U.S. he was getting these threats from the start, not a year after election so his governing isn't to blame. do you deny racism often?

   At first I was going to ask for a source but after searching I understand why it isn't included. The only information I can find on this "fact" is from one guy promoting his new book. And even that information is dated 2009. Not sure how any number from 2009 can actually be an accurate accounting. That makes this figure old, out-dated and inaccurate. We'll ignore that it is also unsubstantiated as it comes from one person who wrote a book he is trying to promote.
   If you do have current information based on an actual verifiable source, please include it.

      @steveso Yes I came across this one when doing my own search. Again, the information is from August of 2009. Protest signs are counted as death threats, things ignored versus Bush.

      Hi FP, You know odd thing, I searched for Bush, 3,000 per year. Same search for Obama, nothing. No real numbers.Only these outdated articles about how many more he supposedly received. I did find one article denouncing these claims though.

   Maybe because people wrote off Bush's mistakes as his being stupid and didn't know better and think that Obama is intelligent and scamming us. I don't think race is a factor. Most of us (not all) have grown and matured beyond that. Racism will always exist to some extent, in some way. But those who think that every action that man ever takes is motivated by race, is in fact the racist themselves.

   As tragic as it is in this day and age, I think the increase in threats can be attributed to race. A lot of people are still not happy that a black may occupies the White House. That does not speak well for us as a nation, but other presidents have done worse. Clinton had his affair. Nixon had Watergate. No scandal has been associated with President Obama, some mistakes have. However, I think that ugly race card is the reasons for the increase number of threats, plus the ease of communicating those threats because of our current technology.

    I think it's because he is black.  But it's not because he is black.  It may be due to the way people reacted.  People that supported him were jubilant when he was elected.  But there was a dark side to their elation.  Many acted as if his election was an act of revenge.  Revenge for all the past sins America had committed.  I noticed a mean-spirited mood as in, "there, we gotcha America..."   A presidency should be about the triumph of the nation, and the people, all the people, not the success of one person, or one race.

    According to the Secret Servce death threats have been stable over the Clinton-Bush-Obama presidencies.
    
    U.S. Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan dismissed published reports that the level of death threats against President Obama are four times greater than typical threat levels against recent presidents — claiming the current volume of threats is comparable to that under George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
    
    "It's not [a] 400 percent [increase]," Sullivan said during a heated exchange with Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), who suggested the service needed additional agents to protect the first African-American president.
    
    "I'm not sure where that number comes from," he said, adding that the number of threats against Obama "are the same level as it has been [against] the last two presidents."

    Hell everyone in the presidency save George Washington has screwed "something" up and left it to the next guy to deal with. Paying it forward is the way to go in the white house. The longer they pay it forward the higher the number of random threats.

    I think the question is so very obvious. It is because of race. He was able to kill the most wanted man on the planet, and that still wasn't good enough for some. Nothing he will every do will be good enough for some. It is a shame but it a reality that unfortunately we will live with forever. Another example, when the President made a statement on the tragedy on Newtown, CT. The disgusting, rants and raves that was on Twitter, were unbelievable. This was the President of the United States of America, grieving with a nation about little children being massacred and the hatred and filth that was exposed upon Twitter, was just utterly disgusting.
