Why does the US government find it necessary to meddle in other countries business?

Mostly the middle east seems to be the focus of much US aggression. Can anyone explain why? Lets keep in mind that yes, there are other rich countries in the world, with the same, if not more liberty and a higher standard of living than the citizens of the US. Also keep in mind, that if the US was so concerned about the citizens rights in these other countries, they would focus on the Sudan, and start helping those at the bottom first. Please no leader of the free world answers. That's just rhetoric with no basis. I want a genuine answer and a civilized discussion.
