I see my beloved country, the United States, eroding and being diminished. What disgusts me the most is that some of our own people are deeply involved in doing this. Can we come back from this? I'm not so sure. Why is this going on?

60 or so years ago, when you were young, Im sure some old man was lamenting the fact that the future generations where dooming their nation because they drank alcohol or some such nonsense.
Perhaps not so much with alcohol specifically, as you refer to, but I'm sure Bob is absolutely correct that in a number of ways he has seen things get worse--like disrespect for elders.
I did read your hub: "No Economic Recovery Coming: Welcome to the Fifth World." It is an excellent hub and I highly recommend it! Though somewhat depressing, at least to me, I feel it is realistic and highly accurate.
Thanks, Missing Link! It's not easy to write honest hubs about today's economy & ecology. As we are realistic, though, a new optimism emerges, not from false hope, but from the fact that living creatures and human beings do solve our problems.
I could agree with this. While I think Keynsian policies have helped us in the past, at some point you have to pay for smoothing those bumps in the road. But people pass it onto the next generation, instead of biting the bullet.
I think this is a little overblown. We assimilate people from vastly different walks of life rather easily. However, I think you are right that there is much more internal strife in our country than it may look like on the surface.
There is a good point here. Abraham Lincoln said that the US was safe from external dangers, and would only be destroyed by internal strife. As a nation we do distract ourselves outwardly. I'd rather use Lincoln than the Borg as a role model, though!
