Are you into politics or not? Do you follow it, why or why not?
Do you follow news about politics and the issues surrounding it?
I'm kind of "meh." If i ever feel inclined to, I'll talk about politics. But, in the end, there are more direct applications for my attention. Besides, I know WAY more about video games than I ever will about politics.
I'm not really into politics. If something about gun control happens, I take notice. But rarely do I know who is who and what they are for.
I used to, but lately I've just gotten overloaded on it. So much hostility and arguing, and everyone's so sure their way is right. It's so frustrating.
I'm not really drawn to it because the bottom line is I am only one vote. I hate getting frustrated so I try not to think about it. But, my husband is very interested, so I end up picking up info. because he watches that stuff all the time.
One vote can make a difference. Granted in the presidential races, it is unlikely the results will come down to one vote, but in local races for city council, tax issues, etc., I have seen issues and elections decided by one vote--and a recount.
I am these days because I feel like I have to be! I'd much rather be able to go about my daily life and not even have to know what our politicians are doing. But alas, I realized I can't trust them to do their jobs correctly. They keep making decisions and laws that affect everyone including me, and the average person has no say in it at all if we don't watch them like hawks.
I think everyone is into politics. Even if you are indifferent, you have to have an understanding of what you are ignoring. In addition, almost everyone has an issue that they are watching, be it health care, gun control, aid for the elderly, troops going overseas, etc., everyone has their foe in the water so to speak. I am not into politics to the extent that people might suspect. I keep up with the highlights. I pay close attention to local and state politics. I cannot name all the cabinet members or always come up with the names of the Congressional leaders. However, I do try to keep in touch with the issues that affect the nation and then when needed, I look at the politics behind that issue, unless of course, the issue is purely political--then you cannot ignore the politics.
I'm sorry, I know this won't be a popular answer, but I feel very strongly that those who don't follow politics are irresponsible. Politics touches every aspect of our lives, whether we like it or not and people should be educated and actually pay attention to what their reps are doing and not just the soundbites they hear on the TV.
People not being involved enough is what is wrong with this country and it's exasperating. Things are done behind our collective backs continually and no one seems to be the wiser because they would rather watch sports or play games etc. I really wish people would get more involved - then maybe things would change, but I doubt it ever will.
Totally! Christin. Politics affects EVERY aspect of our lives from the water we drink to the shows we watch on TV. It's a hard, hard job to enact legislation and most people don't have the patience for it, yet criticize those in the trenches.
I try to stay interested but lately it has become nothing more than a popularity contest and who can run the fanciest advertising campaigns. Pretty sickening in my opinion.
I pay attention and try to respond to surveys, sign petitions, etc... on issues that matter to me. However sometimes I have to take a break from paying attention to the news about politics because I get frustrated that things aren't done in a more mature and efficient manner.
I live in a very politically charged area and for the past few years I have gotten more than my share of politics. While I don't think it's good to be uninformed I believe that getting too wrapped up in "taking sides" can create great hostility and anger not to mention creating a great divide amongst family, friends and co-workers. With each presidential election I find the people to become angrier and more divided.
For the above mentioned reasons I can honestly tell you I am not very political. I find it easier to live a more peaceful life by avoiding most politics.

Do you think its a good idea or bad idea to write about politics on HubPages?Politics, like religion, stirs up emotions in some people bringing out their, shall we say, darker qualities. Knowing this is it a good idea to rouse them with political hubs?

As a Brit, I enjoy the politics hubs and forums here on HubPages. Some hubbers demonstrate a hysteria against Obama which seems far beyond the attacks on Clinton and Bush. I worry whether they are helping to create an atnosphere that would condone assassination.Americans used to revere the office of...

In another forum, someone posted that they dumped their significant other because he/she voted for George Bush. I was kind of shocked by that. It seemed incredibly shallow to me, but I don't know either of the people involved, maybe I'm missing something here.Is this normal practice in...

HP has always said do evergreen hubs. Politics is certainly not evergreen. it has a short "shelf-life" if it is about a current event. And since I would mostly write about U.S. politics, they might have very little appeal in other countries. I use my blogs to write about politics,...

What are your 'feelings' about politics today?I realize we all have opinions about politics with its many directions and controversies. But, what are your 'feelings'? Maybe that can be expanded with the interactions one has today with what are the feelings of the circles traveled in your life?
