Was the Trayvon Martin media coverage a distraction?

The tragic events that led to a teenagers death is sad and the 20 year sentence that Marissa Alexander received seems to have a overt racial overtone to it but are/is our focus diverted from other news in the sunshine state as well? What about the B.P. oil spill, shady cleanup efforts and the shadowy benefactors that benefit more from turning the gulf coast to a private refinery than supplying the gulf coast with oil.

Jon your passionate opinion doesn't answer my question in context. The law will be question b/c the men who are powered to uphold usually become  corrupt. Why can't we see the oil cleanup? What harm will cortexit cause? what is Halliburton role?TRUTH

''The law will be question'' no not the law but the decision of a jury or judge. The legal system allows for APPEAL should the facts allow one. The Deepwater Horizon Oil Well

The mainstream media coverage of this case has been nothing short of shameless race-baiting and sh*t-stirring.

A distraction? Sure - it serves SOME people's interests to DIVIDE the population and change their focus to RELATIVELY irrelevant issues.

    Has it succeeded? You bet.

Interestingly, look at how it divided everyone along PARTY lines, with the "left" doing their utmost to decry the outcome of this case as "injustice", all facts be damned.

This case, while almost certainly a DELIBERATE distraction by "the powers that shouldn't be", has the potential of teaching people something: if they so choose, they can see just how transparently they're being manipulated. And once they figure it out, they may FINALLY start asking more relevant questions. Let's just hope it won't be too late.

I agree about the DELIBERATE distractions and the opportunity to educate ourselves but this case is a microcosm of the destruction happening to a coast line, killing marine life forcing people to vacate. The question will be who does it benefit.
