Would you vote for a truthful politician?

It appears to me that people vote for politicians strictly by there sound bites and ethnicity.
Does the character and truthfulness of a politician mean anything anymore?
Do you vote for yourself or for country?

I doubt that it's even a possibility Having said that honesty is not the most important trait of a politicians, that is conviction and courage, some of the most popular politicians in American history lied continuously, Abraham Lincoln comes to mind but they did so for the right reasons and thus history remembers them well.

My question would be, how would you know them to be truthful? After voting them into office it would be to late.
We have come along way from the days of voting in the village elder, now we vote in shiny suited career politicians who seek fame and fortune at our expense come what may.
I have never known a poor politician in my lifetime and probably never will. And the rich always serve the rich first.

I think you are only looking at those in national offices or high offices in large state. In many communities, being a politician is really a part time job. We often disagree with politicians. They does not mean they are corrupt, maybe just wrong.

As far as I can see there is always a deal being made at all levels.
My local councillor drives around in a £ 74000 Range Rover donated by one of the local car manufacturers, it's funny how he got it just after some planning application approvals.

Yes I would and have done so many times. Politicians are found at the local, parish (county) state and national level. Many of them are hones. Many are not. Some honest politicians are mislead, but that just make them wrong (unless you have the same opinion) but not dishonest.

I once wrote in a history paper that "all politicians were crooked." The professor wrote on the paper, "Can you prove this." I could not and he was right. Some very honest politicians do not last long because they have trouble raising money and are often in conflict with the party line. If we voted for more of the honest politicians and stop re-electing those that have accomplished little, we would all be better off.

Honesty, Character, and Truthfulness are hard to find anywhere anymore.
But the odds are not in the political arena.

You would be surprised. There are 100 U.S. Senators and I think 439 Representatives. We hear news about a third of them. We do not know the rest.

If I knew the politician to be truthful, yes. However, in this day and time it's hard to find anybody that is all the time!
