Democrats or Republicans, which would collapse first?

The US is a two party political and governing system, which current party would be replaced if a powerful third party appeared  -  Democrats or Republicans?

neither. they work together to keep the public fighting against each other, so they think they actually have a say in decisions that our gov makes. in reality we are pawns in their game. if a 3rd party some how became relevant it would only be because the dems and republicans saw them as a necessary ally to continue deceiving the general public.

That's an awesome answer. You are so right. There'd be a third party only if it served a purpose of the two.

I think that process has already begun. I believe the Republican Party is on the verge of total self-destruction. There is too much turmoil within it's own organization. How ever, I don't think it will totally disappear and I don't think a third new party will emerge. I think it's much like a company that is going bankrupt, closes it's doors, re-organizes and re-opens with a new name, new logo, new platform and new attitude. I have no idea what those things will be, but I do know the party cannot survive the way they are now. Sometimes starting from scratch is the best thing to do.

Thank you for your comment. Awesome analogy to a corporation closing and re-opening with a "under New Management" sign out front. In this case it would be the same management with a new or revised product.

I think if a third party were to emerge it would be in a homogeneous state like Utah or Idaho. There would be the very conservative, the traditional conservative and the liberals. We see this split in many areas of the country. The far right is starting to supplant members of the middle-right in nominations and in ideology. I'm not sure how long it will last since it's harmful to both the middle-right and the far-right, but it's the most likely scenario for an emerging third party. It's the only way to still have members, money and political stability.

Thank you for posting your comment and a likely but also already conceived roadmap.
