In a perfect world the answer is no.

This is not a perfect world, obviously.
I can think of a few far fetched reasons why some might be racially prejudiced and I would say to myself they probably deserve to feel that way.

    1. If a person was held as a prisoner in a country for no reason except that they were different. That person may develop a prejudice against the people of that nation. I don't anyone would deny them that.

    2. If a person had a child murdered by someone who hated them because of their race. The parent may become prejudice against these people as well. It would be hard to argue with.

    3. If you grew up as a minority in a school district and you were constantly hurt, beat up and mocked because of no other reason than being different than the rest. That person might become prejudice against what ever the majority of the school was. His or her reasoning would be hard to counter.

I said these are far fetched and may only happen in a small handful of situations. Racism is not a good thing at all no matter how you look at it. It produces anger and hatred and has no good end. Unfortunately in many places in the world its is spreading like a disease.

I think some prejudices are understandable. If your main experiences with people of another race have been negative, then it's bound to create negative associations and an unfavorable impression associated with that race, no matter how rational-minded you try to be about it I can see how it can create a knee-jerk reaction.

In a way, I can understand why some people are that way. Foodeee and Wiccan listed them. That said, I would still say there are no legitimate reasons. I don't understand why we can't all learn to base our opinions about each individual base on their words and actions instead of what we've seen from people from that same group before. There are good and bad in all races, so each person should be judged as an individual.

    A Time for Everything
There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven
A time to give birth and a time to die
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate
A time for war and a time for peace.
What profit is there to the worker from that in which he toils? I have seen the task which God has given the sons of men with which to occupy themselves.
God Set Eternity in the Heart of Man
He has made everything [b]appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime; moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor—it is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has so worked that men should fear Him. That which is has been already and that which will be has already been, for God seeks what has passed by.
Furthermore, I have seen under the sun that in the place of justice there is wickedness and in the place of righteousness there is wickedness. I said to myself, “God will judge both the righteous man and the wicked man,” for a time for every matter and for every deed is there. I said to myselfconcerning the sons of men “God has surely tested them in order for them to see that they are but beasts.” For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. All go to the same place. All came from the dust and all return to the dust. Who knows that the breath of man ascends upward and the breath of the beast descends downward to the earth? I have seen that nothing is better than that man should be happy in his activities, for that is his lot. For who will bring him to see what will occur after him?

I agree with Wiccan Sage.  When I lived in Palo Alto CA, African Americans from East Palo Alto were told to be careful not to dress like gangsters when they went downtown, or they would be hassled.  Some resented that, but East Palo Alto was so gang-infested, what were people supposed to think?  in 1988, it was the murder capital of the US.

I lived in West Palo Alto for 9 years, and no one ever so much as gave me a dirty look.

People of all races need to consider this - avoiding acting out negative stereotypes.

You sure don't shy away from being provocative, do you?

    Good for you, I suppose.

I will tell you something that I know you know. We shouldn't even be looking for "legitimate" reasons to be racially prejudiced. We should be looking for reasons to love one another; and we shouldn't have to search too far and wide for those, should we?

Also, isn't your very question self-contradictory?

To be racially prejudiced is to hold illegitimate views about people based on race. Therefore, aren't you asking for legitimate reasons to hold illegitimate views about people based on race?

The answer to your question is no. I'm asking does anyone see or have any legitimate reasons. some people may feel or think they do as Foodeee and Wiccan can see and agree. Understanding it doesn't mean one condones it.
