At the age of 70+ and adamantly an American, the American dream is the promise of achieving your dreams and ambitions by virtue of your skills, talents, ambition and intellect. It is the promise of the freedom to achieve without the whim or dictate of church and state. With The Bill of Rights and for the first time in human history, Man was free to achieve on his own merit without the consent, bias and blood lines mandated by ruling powers, thus the greatness of America.
The freedom to achieve, as the freedom of speech, is not a guarantee that all have something to say or that all are articulate and that all will achieve.. That you have a right to achieve is self-evident within the Bill of Rights and it is the duty of the government to protect that right, but there is no right of success, that is your responsibility.
The American Dream has been convoluted and distorted to support a socialist agenda in that all have a right to succeed, that all are equal in success, happiness and possessions.
The American Dream is Individual Freedom, not a collective equality. Consider a young man whose desire it is to play football, but is to small. Wes Welker, Bob Sanders, DeSean Jackson would disagree and through enormous effort, talent and perseverance, they are among the best in the NFL. They are achievers, as the entrepreneurs, the doctors, inventors, the men who built America. That is the American Dream, Individual strength and character.
I have failed, bankrupt and living on the street and have succeeded, all at my own doing.
I hope this hepls.
