What will you do today to make a difference?
Or what did you do today to make adifference ?
Through God's Grace, I have risen early a.m every day for the last 32 years. I first sit in Sadhana (spiritual practices), and when it's all over I will then do the mundane things of washing, bathing, short TV - if - preparing for and going to work.
In my case, prayer and meditation are continuous, not in the sense that it is consciously with me (I'd like that), but in the sense that I try to remain alert on the buses, trains, at work .... you get the drift? In the act of remembering God in others, one tries not to hurt and is mostly vigilant or alert.
I can only hope that my life of payer, diligent work and the consciousness that I convey in work and service to my fellow beings daily, is making a difference.
I don't think I made much of a difference today, but I worked on planning things for my classroom as my order of multicultural books came in. Last year, I introduced Burmese, Latina, Black, and Bosnian characters (real and fiction) to my students and this year, I am adding Irish, Pakistani, Indian, Southern, and city folk to the mix. I am hoping this cross section of diverse literature will help my diverse classroom understand each others' differences more and see how they are similar (same dreams, same hopes, etc).
It is my hope that through literature AND through making connections with my students (when school actually starts) that I can start making a difference.
I also made the commitment in May at the end of this past school year, upon reflection on the year's successes and failures, that I need to be more positive in my teaching practice, and be kept accountable on my attitude so that I can stay positive. I need to not let the negativity of some of my colleagues drag me down. This reflection has caused me to plan my first 2 weeks of school drastically different than I ever have before. Thank goodness for administrative support because I know my colleagues will already think I'm being a fool, but I'm hoping this year is the best ever!
