in American society(always has and always will be) as socioeconomic wealth means power, influence, political clout, and having the means of making the rules? What many people fail to realize that socioeconomic wealth is the difference between being powerful and powerless. In American society, having money means more political power in that politicians tend to listen/respect those who with the wealth and ignore those without wealth. Wealth means power to improve and maintain communities and neighborhoods. It also means wealthy people are less likely to be victimized than poor people.

I couldn't have agreed w/you more. So many people believe that wealth somehow is negative & that wealthy people are greedy. This is because they have been inculcated that such is evil when any intelligent person knows that wealth=personal power.
Wealth offers something even greater than power. It offers personal freedom--freedom to do anything and experience everything. That's probably what you're saying: power over your own life.
