What do you think about the current situation in Baltimore ?
Is violence the only way to capture a nation's attention ?
Yes, absolutely. When the U.S. government wants to get someone's attention they send an army, navy, and air force; fully equipped with the latest and greatest weapons of mass destruction. Historically speaking, when the crown would not willingly give up it's control of the colonies, Washington used violence to get their attention. Some years later, when the Southern States seceded from the Union , Lincoln used violence to get their attention, and bring them back to the fold. Like it or not, it has always been this way. Non-violence doesn't really work. If it did, the U.S. military budget for 2015 wouldn't be an estimated $738.8 billion!
What's your take on the present crisis in Baltimore ?
The murder of blacks by the police, or ruling authority , has been going on for over 200 years! Yet, all of a sudden it's front page news. I believe these are staged events, similar to 9/11. It is to further a certain government agenda.
"I'm not buying this gang mobilization, however I do see the groundwork of treating gangs as domestic terror groups being laid."
People will fight back against cold brutal murders. It is their absolute right to fight back. Yes there is the Ghandi way as well but the USA promotes the gun and liberty. It is war.
Agreed, fighting back is their absolute right but with so much violence and chaos. Nope that's where it gets wrong.
The way to get good attention is never violence, and from what I saw on the news the violence in Baltimore is not being instigated by residents of that city but by outsiders. I'm not saying residents weren't involved in the violence and looting but it was ignited by outsiders, who are experienced at inciting riots and how to avoid being caught.
Violence gets attention, yes but not any kind of good attention. Peaceful protests get favorable attention. What is happening there is like you getting mad for something a police officer did to your neighbor and then going home and setting your home and business on fire to get even. It makes no sense whatsoever, no matter how you look at it.
How can anyone expect to get "justice" by actively propagating injustice against their own community of innocent bystanders and breaking the laws, laws that were passed for their own protection? What could be a legitimate grievance is turned into a farcical excuse for anarchy. If it's white oppression of blacks that is the grievance in that city, violent blacks targeting innocent blacks is not going to solve anything.
There are a multitude of non-violent measures that can be taken by reasoning and civilized people, black or white, to express grievances and obtain a nation's attention and this violence in Baltimore has nothing to do with the grievance other than it's just an excuse for anarchy to raise it's ugly head. Do you think cops are hurt by anarchists burning and looting innocent resident's property and businesses? Even if the violent protesters targeted the police department instead of innocents and killed all the police, what good could come from that? Without a police department to enforce the laws you have total anarchy.
These violent riots are insanity, are no more an effective tactic than the weather ground bombing American institutions. These inciters and those who participate in the aftermath of their instigation are domestic terrorists, nothing less and anyone who puts stock in their violent activities is as uncivilized as they are.
Like in the pic above, what did CVS do to deserve this? Two wrongs don't make a right.
This is what i feel too. Thanks for thinking this way.
Yes, When your tired of seeing your ppl shot down in the streets!! Often a peaceful protest will turn violent!!
But then what's the difference between 'you' and 'them' ?
You call it violence but it is direct action in response to state violence. It is understandable and expected. Only in the most messed up of societies would we be focusing on the damage to property here. The civil unrest that has caused the damage is caused by state murder. Not just one murder but a long history.
The marches are aimed at changing how a state operates. Never in recorded history has a peaceful protest been able to accomplish this without being accompanied by more direct action.
So while I do not call the actions of the protestors violence, I think that term should be reserved for the state sponsored murderers, I do think that direct action is the only way to elicit change.
What does the death of one person in the custody of local police, causes unknown as yet, have to do with State violence? The only thing messed up here is your capacity to understand the facts. You'd be cursing them if it was your business in flames.
Don't think 'an eye for an eye' sort of attitude is the best solution. What happened in the prison should have not happened.Agreed. But all the plundering and the violence on the streets right now is also not called for. It isn't the best solution.

Seeing what the US is going through, I think it requires a president like Obama. Obama was the one uniting force in the US. People felt more comfortable under his presidency. What do you think?

What's the current situation between Google and Hubpages?I lost virtually all of what little Google traffic I had on 29 September, and it isn't coming back. I just did a little experiment, searching for one hub which had been on page 1 of Google - couldn't find it at all now - after looking through...
