45 Years Ago: Do you remember the Kent State Shootings?
Time Life covered it well. http://time.com/3839195/life-magazine-kent-state/
What a waste of lives. There was no good reason for killing unarmed civilians.
Let us never forget!
I certainly do remember the Kent State incident. At the time, I was fighting for my life in the jungles and swamps of the Mekong Delta in South Vietnam.
And there was no reason for those "unarmed civilians" to be aiding and abetting the very people who were trying to kill me and thousands of other Americans.
The truth is, the Kent State protesters were nothing but a bunch of spoiled and misguided "children of privilege" who were too selfish to serve their country.
Furthermore, they mostly only spent their time smoking dope and making whoopee under the stars -- when they were not protesting against what was actually the most important war the USA ever fought.
Wow, feenix, I never expected a comment like yours. Enlightening! There are two side to every coin. I honor all of our veterans, sir. Thank you for serving in the armed forces. I am glad you came home alive. My brother served in Nan and survived it.
Feenix, The national guard "soldiers" who did the shooting never set foot near Vietnam. And the Civil War was a more important war.
Chances are some of the NG soldiers did serve in Vietnam, because a lot of Vietnam vets joined the NG after they left active duty. Also, by firing on those unpatriotic fools, those troops were doing their duty; stopping the "enemy" in its tracks.
1770 - Royal troops fire into a crowd of their fellow Crown subjects who are protesting and throwing rocks; killing 5 and wounding others, in what is called the "Boston Massacre".
1970 - 200 years after the Boston Massacre, federal troops fire into a crowd of their fellow citizens who are protesting and throwing rocks; killing 4 and wounding others, in what is called the "Kent State Shootings".
It's interesting how similar these events are and yet the two are rarely compared in a historical context.
In my opinion, there are no comparisons to be made between the Boston Massacre and Kent State. The former was the beginning of a war for independence and latter was nothing but a bunch of spoiled and pampered brats being unruly.
Old-Empresario, that is interesting that the Boston Massacre and Kent State were on the same date, 200 yrs. apart. Thank you for mentioning that event in history.
If not for the US's long presence in Vietnam, there would probably have been huge Soviet carrier fleets positioned just off the coasts of Seattle, San Francisco and L.A. And that is the reason why the Vietnam War is the US's most important war.

For the 22nd time just this year, somebody opened fire on an America school campus. While most of the others had an AR-15 as the gun of choice, this one was accomplished with a shotgun and revolver. In my mind, that changes the discussion somewhat based on what facts come out.In terms...
