Is the United States a democracy?
Or does the candidate with the biggest purse win the elections? Can you talk about a democracy when there are only two parties to choose from?
I'd argue that there is only one party with two competing factions. It's sort of like Eagles vs. Cowboys. What does either team really stand for? If you turn down the white noise, has President Obama acted much differently from President Bush?
To the least extent it can be.
You get one vote every four years, in which you pick from the smallest possible selection of millionaire candidates, who've been carefully chosen based on how much money they can raise from other millionaires and billionaires. Then, you sit back and watch them run things like a dictatorship until the next time they begrudgingly allow you to vote.
The most popular parties in the United States are Democrat and Republican. Also, there are other parties. This period to end with President Obama is Democrat. In the United States we have the freedon of speech. It means. You can say what ever you want. As long you do not hurt someone in a way of speaking. In writing you need to be correct. Facts and true are allow in writing. Good luck with your article.
How the leadership is chosen and their powers is what from my understanding distinguishes the US being a democracy. However, it is a republican form of government with a mixed/modified economy based on capitalism. Essentially it is regulated by the the government.
There are only 6 states that disallow write in balloting with federal elections regarding the presidency. The only trick is the candidate must be registered with most states. So, you can vote for yourself if you wish while with most states you will have to register for the ballot. A trend since 1996 there are at least 5-6 candidates on the ballot not counting how many write-in's there may be.
Yes, I think so. The country is in fact very democratic. Everyone in the society have involvement.
