Why aren't major news outlets covering recent Southern church burnings?

7 predominantly black churches in the south have been burned in the last week.  The FBI is investigating.  Why do you think many major U.S. news outlets are not covering this?  Did you know about this before reading my question?

Motherbynature, I heard about 5, but I did not recall 7... this is more and more disconcerting! It is likely that because this situation is not part of the overall agenda of the media they have ignored it. Perhaps when enough attention is brought to this issue they will begin coverage, though they may have strategized on their own spin on it by then. This is serious and it is simply not okay for it to be ignored.

Yes unfortunately it is 7 as of yesterday.  From what I can see only Washington Post and BBC news are providing updated reports.  American media is getting a lot of pressure on social media for keeping silent on this.

It is on all of the local news networks here, because I live in South Carolina and this is a big deal here. I have no idea why it isn't on major news outlets, but I'd like to think they don't want to encourage the race war that Dylan Roof wanted to start. Sadly they probably aren't reporting for another reason.
Another church is still smoldering this morning and burned last night. My news outlet reports this as number 7. It's heartbreaking no matter how many it is.
I have to admit I am ok with it not making national media because I don't want idiots coming to my state. As of last night 2 of the churches have been here. I want people like Al Sharpton, the black panthers, and the KKK to stay as far away from SC as possible!! And all of them want to bring their hate mongering every chance they get. We need to come together peacefully and help these churches rebuild. The FBI needs to continue to investigate and hopefully lock the person or people away for a long while!

I can't imagine how you must feel living right there in the thick of it.  I see what you're saying about not wanting to start a race war.  I don't ever see that happening but it looks like someone else is carrying on Roof's cause.

I have read about it. My guess is the media is downplaying it because it does whatever the government wants it to do and it doesn't like to point out real problems. It would rather talk about queers getting married and transexuals for a front-page headlines as a distraction from the brutality in the Carolinas.
Anything that might cause social awareness or even revolution is stifled by the self-censoring press.
