Going through news from different countries, people everywhere are complaining their governments are the worst in the world. "The entire system is inefficient and is destroying our economy!" Why the tendency to think the grass is greener on the other side?

"A government of the people, for the people, and by the people". You are right- people's apathy is largely to blame for the deterioration of their governments. We have a tendency to sit back and watch if someone else will "fix" the system.
clapping at this answer - right on. Sadly so many people are willing to not participate and that needs to change. WE can't complain if we are asleep at the wheel and allow this madness to happen.
All national governments do follow the same trend. In an ideal world, the political class would put their mandate before their personal interests. But decades of different government regimes have taught us that this will never truly be the case.
To be fair, the people have power over the government. There wouldn't be a government if the people hadn't put it there in the first place. So the people are at fault for not holding their respective governments to accountability.
If our very nature causes us to distrust and the established order, how are we meant to progress as societies?
