Can self-preservation (including self-defense) be considered a basic human right?

With all the important talk about human rights these days, it's vital to keep things in perspective and determine what things really are "basic human rights." So I ask, "Can self-preservation (including self-defense) be considered a basic human right? If so, should reasonable methods of self defense be protected? If you don't think self-preservation is a human right, please explain why. Thank you.
