i was an airman for one reason. to try and be a part of an organization that protects the rights and freedoms of all americans. to support and protect the constitution of the united states. any other reason would degrade the position. i was in the fire department of the air force and had the honor of taking more than a few pilots out of their burning or crashed aircraft. many lived to fight another day.
many years after i left the air force i had a job at patrick air force base. i worked at the marina rebuilding the docks and finger piers. there was and older gentleman taking a tour and thinking of becoming a member. he came up to me and asked my last name. i told him and he said "the last time i saw you, you grabbed my shirt and jerked me out of my seat." i got a little nervous and then he said" i was in a burning F-4 and you saved my life. thank you" i since found out he flew many sortes after that and that was all the thanks i ever needed for my work as an airman.
