Why do we have this ongoing dialogue about blacks voting for Obama because of his color?
Blacks have voted majority democrat (over 90%) for decades. Why is the vote for Obama a issue of color when the same level of support for Carter, Clinton, or Kennedy was not?
For the same reason we have ongoing dialog about other issues that are brought about by ignorance and intolerance.
As long as there are people, there will be stupidity.
The percentage was not the issue, it was the sheer number of voters. Many blacks came to the polls who hadn't voted before and their support greatly aided his victory.
I understand your point but there were also record numbers of black voters for Clinton. Wouldn't that actually point to a trend of greater involvement rather than a race issue?
Blacks have not always voted for Democrats in the numbers they have in the last 30 years or so. There was a time when most blacks voted for Republicans. I think that it has a lot to do with what have you done for me lately. But anytime a group votes 95% for a candidate of their own race this question will be asked. Not only will it be asked, I think that it is fair to ask. You can't tell me that 95% of all blacks think politically alike. I think race has everything to do with how we vote. If the black leaders, such as Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton, told us to change our vote because we have been marginalized by the Democrats at least 50% percent would change immediately. Am I right? Good question!
Our country is becoming increasingly polarized. Presidential elections used to not be almost always 50% democrat, 50% republican. Now, the country is divided with little sway either way.
Irish, Italians, Asians, Jewish, Polish, Germans... most every "race" or culture in America split their vote. The one exception when it comes to race, skin color, cultural background - however you want to define it - is how blacks voted.
Why aren't blacks splitting their vote? They read the same material. They have access to the same newspapers as the rest of the country. Some argue that Democrat policies are better for blacks, but others point out that their policies actually hurt in the long run.
So, if the rest of the country split their vote with the exception of one race, who voted for one candidate as a percentage higher than any other time in history, doesn't this raise questions?

We use the internet for everything. Why not the internet? If we voted by internet, this would almost cancel out need for politicians. With internet voting, the people could vote on the laws. With internet, the country would trly be run by the people.
