The whole point of a college education is to be exposed to different viewpoints, but nowadays the college kids are just pathetic. Viewing "The Great Gatsby" as a harmful book because it has suicide and misogyny; "Things Fall Apart" may offend people because it talks about slavery and has elements of racism in it. Colleges put "trigger warnings" on syllabi to warn students that the book/assignment may hurt them in some way, or cause discomfort. In addition, there are "Free Speech Zones," and students protesting right wing speakers. You can't even hand out the Constitution--this is the USA!

This is true and this behavior actually really hurts most discourse about a lot of controversial issues.
It also drives the rise of extremists like Trump, when anyone who is moderate has been silenced by shouts of racist/sexist/-phobe.
Michaela..Interesting.U mean "this behavior" as in having a hissy-fit & threatening 2 report a group of "hateful" adults expressing their opinions on UNI-sex bathrooms & trans surgery for children? Another day, another image?
Actually, you can't speak for freely at college. You have to sign up for the "free speech zone." I care, because these idiots are only allowing liberal views--God forbid you are pro-choice! Many people have made it through w/o stupid warnings.
I've been to college 3 times, no free speech zones, must be only at few colleges. What kind of person doesn't want ppl who have been abused for years or raped be able to have a bit of peace in knowing something is a trigger? Have u ever been a victim
I'm talking about college NOW. Read the news. I understand the victim thing, but people are taking it way too out of control. Getting upset over stupid things-being offended by the American Flag--we live in America!
Yes, I said earlier, its the internet that this generation is developing in - they'll figure it out, eventually. People have been dissing/burning the flag since the 60's. Media makes stuff seem more/less than it actually is depending on the agenda.
On the contrary, it is going on with many US universities. Don't know about Canada. People need to handle being offended in life.
I agree with you, life is going to be very hard for people who can't learn to deal with conflict or need to be shielded from otherwise harmless things that offend them. Literature is a big one for me-a lot of great books deal with nasty stuff.
Right. It will be run by liberals who force people to think their certain way. The world will suck.
I remember when conservatives & liberals semi-respected each other; even vote for each others candidates. It may take a while to adjust to information overload - but 'middle ground' can rise like a massive, inhabitable mountain in between both si
Yes, but it is more prevalent now. I thank God I'm not in college now.
How old are you, Lolita - in your 20's? How would you know if things are more prevalent, now? LoL! Its not - college kids have always been 'progressive' know-it-alls doing their own wacky thing. They aren't that much different to previous generations
Older than in my 20's.
Aww man.........I really thought you were about to give Ur age away.
Now ur turn Lolita :)
Still, Evangelical Christians have been saying the exact same thing about college kids in various ways - again, for decades. ;)
Never ask a woman her age. ;)
U know I've never understood that......
I realize that the girls I grew up with Used to love giving their age out because they were growing into a woman. But once we hit the 20s mark all of them got SILENT.................................
For the past six or so years I've been turning 25 on my birthday ;)
You're right that there were Greeks complaining the latest generation was immoral, but majority illegitimacy rates, delayed starts to adulthood and whining about micro-aggressions when ISIS kills homosexuals and Christians shows a major failing
Lolita your still young and beautiful like the rose in your profile pic....And no matter how old you get someone around you will always think that. So not only our age matures but our attention to beautiful things as well.
