Do you believe in the death penalty? Is a life for a life the answer & does it go against God's law?
The Death Penalty has been shown to be ineffective in reducing deadly crimes. It costs the state more to go through the appeals process while it can take decades, if ever, to actually execute them.
There have been many cases where it was later found out the person was innocent of the crime.
These two factors alone should question the death penalty.
Perhaps, just making sure that the guilty party is no rejoined with the public is the best that the state can do.
Very true!
It seems like every month we're hearing about someone on death row or has been in prison for 20 or 30 years who didn't commit the crime once DNA is compared. God only knows how many people have been put to death who were innocent.
I think I have a very different view of this topic:
I have no problems with the death penalty, but I'm against life without parole as well as 3 Strikes laws.
My primary belief: Life w/o parole and 3 strikes makes prisons more dangerous, making rehabilitations much harder. 3 strikes laws also make the streets more unsafe. Guys will act desperate when pulled over for a minor traffic infraction, etc. Pull a gun when not necessary. Carrot and stick approach should always guide us. Rehabilitation is the primary goal.
The death penalty should be on the books for serial killers and the like. I use the case of Gary Ridgway here in WA. They cut a deal with him so he would detail his crimes and tell us where the bodies are. Very little has been found and chances of finding anything more are virtually nil. He should have suffered the same fate as his victims, knowing the fear of what is coming. Guy like that can't be rehabilitated.
I'm different in that I'm very liberal on a lot of criminal justice issues except for the death penalty.
Rehabilitation doesn't work, look at Ca.
Prisons more dangerous for Who? There is more crimes committed inside of a prison than most places outside of it. The penal system has no justice, and it just doesn't work. Over 2million in prison & jail
I am for the death penalty in cases of multiple murders (spree, serial, and mass murderers) and cases of rape and pedophilia as long as there is evidence more than "he said she said".
I'm not a religious person, I am a person who cares about people so my only thoughts on this revolve around what is right for the majority of people.
Pedophiles can not be rehabilitated and murderers of multiples don't deserve our tax dollars in attempting to rehabilitate.
I don't really give a dame, about what the bible have to say on this topic. Religion is for a person's own spiritual fulfillness only, it give you no right to force your own religion's rule upon another, people who do that, is no better then the Talibans, minus the suicide bombers.
Having said that, I do not support death penality, true, there are certain crime, that I believe, the person guilty deserve to die. However, how many innocent people are there behind bars? How can we be 100% certain we got the right person? If the wrong person is arrested, at least we can set him free and compensate him, if we found out he is innocent. But, if he is dead, even if we realized he is innocent, it would be too late. That is why I don't support death penalty.
The 10 Commandments do not say "do not kill". They say "do not murder".
Killing someone trying to kill you is self-defense, defending your life, and thus killing the person trying to kill you and your family is allowed per the Bible.
And executing someone for committing murder is not a violation of the Bible. In fact, it is called for in the Old Testament repeatedly. The punishment for willfully murdering someone is death, both to atone for the crime and ensure the murderer doesn't kill anyone else, whether another prisoner or guard or witness.
I'm fine with the death penalty provided we ever manage to get 2 things down first.
1. The method. If someone is going to be executed, there shouldn't be any "ifs" involved.
2. Evidence. There should be no doubts involved whatsoever before an execution takes place. If you have all the evidence required, it's a green light.

What are your views on the death penalty? While I do believe that some people should be put to death, the risk of sending an innocent person to death is too great. I think either the requirements for the death penalty should be higher or is should be banned. What do you think?

I cannot support the death penalty. My primary reason is that it is a decision that cannot be reversed. Oops, "I made a mistake ... too late, there is no correction."To be sure I do believe there are instances in which the criminal surely deserves the death penalty. Hells bells, in some...
