My husband's family has a secluded 100 acre piece of land about 30 minutes from my home. It is surrounded by woods, has 2 old abandoned not in tact family homes on it, a creek, a small pond, a barn that is still solid, and even the driveway entrance will have to be cut back a small bit to get in. As of now anyone passing the driveway would not know it is there. You have to drive through the branches, then about 500 ft down it there is a fence. Once you get past the fence you have to drive another quarter mile before getting to where it opens up.
It isn't perfect, but there are 2 wells on site. One of the abandoned homes is brick and fixable. It would be a good place to start over. The land is fertile and will be great for growing. It has old pig houses that are dug into the ground with cement walls which would be nice for storing food. It has lots of fruit and nut trees.
It is isolated, so we would be safer than many places. Hopefully we won't need it in our lifetime, but if we do it is there waiting.
