Cruz is apparently hated by many in his own Party. Is he a mere opportunist or is he a patriot? The words of Franklin Roosevelt come to mind: "They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred." There is no doubt that Cruz seems to think similarly. Can Cruz ever be truly effective as a statesman or is he too arrogant, as many of his peers believe? What is your take on Senator Ted Cruz?

I hadn't thought about the irony angle. I'm glad you mentioned it, John. It's actually refreshing to hear something nice about Ted Cruz for a change.
And we should take your opinion because????
Basically because mine is fact, and it can be verified. Also FDR won the presidency 3 times. Ted Cruz didn't even win the republican nomination. I don't know how you include Statesman for Cruz?
"Statesman" is over-the-top. You got me there. But betting on Trump is a huge gamble. Most gamblers lose. That being said, Hillary is no prize either. Both candidates are bad. Thus far, you have not provided any facts in Trump's favor.
WE KNOW Hillary is bad for America just based on the facts&even what she says she'll do = a third BO term.Trump? No one KNOWS whether he'll be a bad or a good President,if he does what he says he will do,America wins. We've no choice but him!
I know and I hear you, Yaze. But on a personal note, his misuse of Mexicsn immigrants bugs the hell out of me. He used cheap labor for his buildings and then had the gall to call them rapists. Big turn off.
Well look at it this way.Hillary is a serial murderer&Trump is a felon in prison convicted of a crime that repulses you but he has information that will put'r away forever if u let him testify.Do u cut hima deal&put him on the stand or not?
That's pretty much what it comes down to, unfortunately.
I appreciate your explanation, Don't Taze Me. I have mixed emotions about Cruz. I didn't initially see Cruz's speech as a snub, but maybe that's just what it was. Notwithstanding, Cruz's speech was awesome. Thanks for your answer! Makes sense.
He said a lot of good things, words conservatives love to hear,& I must say he is good at tickling those ears but in the end,it's just words which lawyers are expert at using to sway a judge, a jury... a voter! His political career is over.
I wouldn't say that his political career is over; however, he seems not to have learned the art of compromise. It may be that Cruz is only out for Cruz.
Are you saying you'd vote for crooked Hillary for president? You'd vote for the Democrat, the party that boos at prayer and wanted reference to God taken out of their platform in 2012?
Taze, you are not being fair. Diane did not say that. She answered a question about Cruz. She was honest about her feelings. The Trump issue is another matter. I've no doubt that Diane wrestles with this election as much as I do.
Don't Taxe, you must be new to the discussions. I am neither Dem or Rep. I don't speak of them negatively though I disagree with them on most things. I'm currently pray with Billy Graham from a 40 day prayer book. There Bad stuff on both sides.
Sorry didn't mean to imply anything, just when you said you wouldn't vote for either Cruz or Trump, who is left? I guess you could just not vote at all or vote for third party but either is still a vote for Hillary, the scourge of the earth.
I am still praying for a ram in the bush. Hopefully, some scandal will come up to disqualify Trump. I'd have no problem voting for either of the veep nominees.
