Does it actually help writing to your Senator about the health care repeal?

A friend of mine strongly recommended that I write a snail mail to my Senator asking not to repeal the Affordable Care Act without a plan in place that provides better, more affordable care, to at least as many people as those covered now. I did it. Now I am wondering... Do Senators really read those letters? Can my letter make a difference on how my senator will vote? What's your opinion?
