   Why Do Americans Say Things Like "We Fought For Our Independence!" When They Were Never There?
   
   I see this on Hubpages all the time. "We" this and "We" that in reference to the history of the United States. Huh? Are there really people still living today that participated in the Revolutionary War? The War of 1812? The Civil War? The last living WWI veteran died in 2012. So it appears that "We" didn't do anything at all in the past, but "They" most certainly  did. And what did "They" do. They helped to commit genocide, steal an entire continent, destroy a culture and supplant it with a greedy capitalist oligarchy. It's remarkable that the "We" people want to take credit for all of that.

   Yet, you don't have a problem when "we" is used in connection with Slavery. We the people of today had nothing to do with Slavery. In fact, the biggest factor in slavery were the Africans that captured and made slaves for sale to many countries in the world.
   
   So where is your opinion on why "WE" had anything to do with Slavery? It is only logical that you have to spread that "WE" equally to good and bad.
   And you also have to give credit or blame to "WE" by stating who is that "WE". Is it Americans, or the US Government, or both?
   
   The "WE" logic of this question is vague, ambiguous and doesn't seem to have a point, at least not a valid point. Many Indian Reservations are doing pretty good thank to "WE" gamblers.

      I have never said "we" had anything to do with slavery. I have no opinion on an absurd position I have never taken. The progeny of thieves continue to profit from  slavery. That is my position.  You R entirely off topic, and I indicated who "we" R.

      The topic is why Americans say "we" in reference to historical events they never participated in . That has nothing to do with the issue of slavery or how anyone feels about it.  How often were U picked 4 the debate team?

      My question has nothing to do with slavery. Brad doesn't know how to stay on topic. My question pertains to nationalist rhetoric. For example: "We defeated the British", which is a ridiculous statement.

      I read the article. He doesn't know about contributions from other races because he is an uneducated racist. Educated people know better than to make such ignorant statements. I only hope there is a hell deep enough and wide enough to hold them all.

      Wrong again Brad. First of all England did not have control of the entire area now known as the U.S..England continued to own the American colonies after the war, and the U.S. is a British  Colony unto this very day. U know nothing of history.
