Based on all my observations of college life, news, pop culture, and the like, I'd say society is becoming more accepting but has much work to do. If someone picks on someone else for being bigger, say on Facebook, usually others will rush in to defend the person, which is awesome.
That said, women in particular are "marketed" as sex symbols, and I can tell you that while it may be hidden, many young men still judge girls by their sizes and appearances. Because male youth are taught to value certain physical appearances in women, if they see someone who doesn't meet that standard, they can become derogatory.
Baby steps, I suppose. Hopefully people will one day stop bullying based on size.
