   Why did the US Termination of Indians Policy of 1953-1964 under Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy,

   I lived through the real impact of these ridiculous concepts. sixties through the 70's my buddies were yanked up from their homes and shipped like so much cargo and placed in dorms in my town. Speaking native languages was basically prohibited - but not really. So they would just live away from family and go to my schools.
   A really ugly fact was mixing up tribes or nations. The Dine' and the Hopituh Shi-nu-mu were just "Indians" with huge different cultures. Their religions were just totally ignored their spirituality by custom was removed from their lives.
   In short the concept was to take the Indian out of the Indian through indoctrinating their children.
   The best I can say is that my many friends from both sides are doing just fine and have a nice mixture of our cultures.

      In Ohio we didn't hear much about Govt. trying to eliminate Native Amer. Nations, but I'm glad that failed and happy you have many cultures in one family for rich heritage. I'm shocked JFK didn't end the policy, but maybe he was just killed too soon.

      It really formed a great deal of my life perspective. My Dad was a Health director of one of the main counties involved. He would take me with him to visit when I was very young. It was so cool how he got respect by giving respect. We need that again
