This week, the University of Texas removed four more Confederate statues from its main campus. Some went to their museum, and others were relocated to less prominent places. Part of their statement: "Erected during the period of Jim Crow laws and segregation, the statues represent the subjugation of African Americans. That remains true today for white supremacists who use them to symbolize hatred and bigotry." Do you agree?

Ralph, I would encourage you to read this, to get a perspective on how Southerners learn about their history: https://www.facebook.com/RoseRave/posts/1828574087...
I live in the South. It's very different here than it is where you are.
I remember Stone Mountain having a laser show at night when I was in Atlanta.
Yep. There's a difference between studying history in school and museums, and celebrating men who sought to subjugate their fellow humans. It's not history that's being erased, but the way it was inappropriately framed to promote racist ideas.
Lisa - lived in Louisiana, Texas, and Georgia and have experienced racism firsthand on many occasions - I still stand by my beliefs that statue worship isn't happening
By "statue worship", you must mean Nazis and KKK members, marching to keep them in place? I assure you, that's happening, and the fact that those are the ONLY people marching for them should tell you it's time for those statues to go!
Exactly. I live in Seattle & have experienced these free hate speech rallies - & we don't even HAVE any iconic statues for them to utilize. I'm guessing you've missed most of the rallies that have been held around them. Not safe for city crow
We can ALL Agree the ORANGE Faced, Mentally Disturbed National DISGRACE in OUR White House along with Confederate MEMORABILIA must B REMOVED NOW ~ Hard-CORE Yankee Mr. Trump now ADOREs Gen. LEE? His new Marketing TARGET must B HILLBILLIEs
They didn't magically become offensive. By your own admission, right-wing groups are using the removal of these symbols of white oppression as a rallying point for their hatred and bigotry, pretending they're about "white pride".
White Pride is a direct and proportional response to BLM and much of what Eric Holder tried to accomplish
Lisa suggests by omission that everyone should be proud of who they are, just so long as they are not a straight white male. Yeah, I'll vote AGAINST democrats and persons like Lisa, so long as I remain alive :)
I'm not running for anything. You can be proud of who you are, without using that pride to oppress someone else. Confederate "heroes" belong in history books and museums, not in public squares.
And really, BLM is responsible for Nazis and the KKK?
Someone who loves guitars and baseball is someone I can relate to. Anyone who would join an alt-right group because of the statutes, shouldn't. Peace.
Agreed. This is something to relegate to history---especially since most of these statues were erected during Jim Crow, and again during the Civil Rights Movement. They were a big FU to anyone who thought blacks should be equal.
Great answer & comment!
I was born in Oklahoma & totally understand Y peeps don't want them removed: they aren't just about slavery, they R family history & cultural ancestry (which was not ALL bad) & is VERY important to everyone. Shame WS's R tainting their me
Lisa V...you are right on.
P.S. I never use the name "Lee!"
I grew up in California. Shortly after I moved to Texas, I was having lunch in a diner with my friend and her parents, and her dad used the N word, quite loudly, in our conversation. He really didn't understand why I gasped, or what was wrong.
Obviously, they'll continue crapping on our cars, Keith. Removing the statues will have minimal impact on pigeon crappage.
This whole thing is crap, and not from pigeons. All of these things have been around for 150+ years and now, all of a sudden, they are being offensive. People are becoming way too sensitive since Obama and all this political correctness crap started.
Greg, I and many other people have been offended by these statues that honor genocide and slavery since we were children. Over 50 years! Obviously, you are not concerned with anything that adversely affects any other race but the white race.
They have been around for 150yrs but Trump has only been re-whipping WS's up again for a couple years - which is why they R 'suddenly' re-emboldened to use these statues as icons. Moving them to Confederate sites is a reasonable compromise.
I agree with you SD.
Thanks, Gregas, I really appreciated your comment about the school curriculum regarding the truth of History. Unfortunately, the truth is being twisted. This concerns me greatly.
You should research the transformation of Democrats and Republicans around the Nixon era. What's ironic is that the party you now trash is the actually the party you support.
Jack, if you have something to say, be specific.
LOL!...Oh Yves....You're my idol. A woman after my own heart. No muss, no fuss, just tell it like it is. I love you!!
Back at you, GF! ;)
