Does the Taliban in Afghanistan really need to be our enemy?


Facts: We didn't care when the Taliban took Kabul in 1996. The Taliban religious police is trained by the Saudi equivalent of religious police so let's not pretend we can't have an ally governed by hardcore islam. Al-Qaeda has nothing to do with the Taliban.

    Nice response. I agree we should limit available safe havens for extremist groups but i'm also concerned our very presence in afghanistan contributes to spread of extremism more than it mitigates it.

    You can't compare nazi germany to the taliban. There are literally zero parallels. Though it's interesting to bring up the British as their involvement in the middle east post WW1 was disastrous and helped shape the instability we see today.
