How are the gun-less civilians of 192 countries getting their sense of confidence and security?

Allegedly, there are only three countries whose constitutions guaranty civilians to possess firearms---United States, Mexico, and Guatemala. With 195 countries on this planet, someone with my size of curiosity might ask: is it statistically true that those "unprotected" civilians (of westernized part of the world) suffer more gun-related violence than highly "protected" folks of the United States? Check for yourself---and be surprised. So, what makes them feel so "confident", and Americans so "threatened" that guns are a normal item in their household?
