Most of the statues people are all up in arms about were put up during the Jim Crow and Civil Rights eras, as a big F. U. to the North.
They also aren't great works of art. They were mostly churned out by one foundry. They have no more artistic value than garden gnomes.
Most people don't realize that public statues require maintenance. They have to be cleaned, have graffiti removed, have the pigeon poop removed, and every so often, they have to be restored. So, anyone objecting to the cost of removing them might want to factor in the long-term cost of having them in the first place.
My feeling: get rid of them. There's no need to keep these monuments, because there was no need to erect them in the first place.
