i am not a "youth" by any means. but as a youth in the distant past, i can remember fighting against all figures of authority. my parents, the police ect.. difference is, i also feared them and the repercussions of that rebellious nature. now the youth no longer fear this because it's against the law to punish the young with corporal punishment. you can't smack a kid on the backside for swearing. there is very little ways to punish a kid to instill fear in wrongdoing.
i was caught stealing something from a local store when i was young. the store owner, blistered my butt, then called my dad who in turn blistered my blisters, and i was grounded for 2 months as well as having to pay back the store for something they already got back.
now even the parent can't punish the child. the courts let them get away with it 3-4 times before any probation is even given to today's youth. they no longer fear doing wrong. it gets boring so they go to bigger and bigger thrills until they do something that gets them locked up. they feel cool cause they got away with 100 things and were only punished for 1.
it used to be a bruise on the family for being put in prison. i saw families leave town when one of their own was locked up. now it's a merit badge. things have "CHANGED" for the worse and as a country we are "full speed ahead" for that kind of change.
