On this week’s show, Bill Maher asked, “ Why does it seem that America always needs an enemy?” Until I heard the question, I never gave it much thought. After pondering this, it occurs to me that there is a fundamental dynamic in always having an enemy. It goes back to the days of cowboy films where the good guys had the white hats and the bad guys had the black hats. If there is no bad guy…the good guys just don’t seem that significant. They become bland, at best. What are your thoughts on this?
