Every time someone asks me for money, I give them 5 bucks or so. I know that some of these people probably use it for drugs or alcohol, but some of them might actually use it for food.
I remember I found the exact same Ashley sofa and loveseat that we were looking for in a BigLots Furniture store. I saved like 90 bucks on it. As I was walking out to my car, a guy and his wife pulled up beside me in a beat up old Blazer. They told me that they needed some gas money to get to where they were going, and in the backseat I saw their children. The kids seemed happy enough, and even talked to me a little bit.
The guy said that he could sell me some of his tools that he had in the back, but I kinda thought they were stolen. I just handed him the 90 bucks that I saved on the couches, and told him not to worry about it. I really don't know what he actually did with the money, but I could tell that he was tearing up when he pulled off.
Either he felt bad about taking my money, or he was genuinely moved. Everybody needs a little nudge every now and then, including me. I've been knocked on my butt so many times (mostly by my own bad decisions), I just feel that some people deserve a little help.
