   Thoughts on spanking your child in public, or behind closed doors?

   Sometimes they need a swat on the bum.  If it is approriate you cannot wait until you get home, then the point is lost.

   The government should not be into such details of our lives. I did not spank our children very much because I did not find it to be effective most of the time.. One has to go by what works the best for you and your child.

   No, the government has no power in our lives.  As a mother, and a kind person, I am glad that childen have a voice, a mentor, a confidant........somewhere to turn.
   
   The  government of the USofA is about personal freedom and voice....it about the public.....it is about the lone and weak voices.......our children should be protected, first by family, extended family..........I have NO problem with protecting children..........
   
   The problem is, today, with all the info available, " child protective services" has become a threat that the CHILD holds over the PARENT!.........yet if we dare  discipline, we risk being called abusive, if we do not, we risk be charged with neglect.
   
   
   The government needs to back its ass out of homes.
   
   When a story needs to be told..........somebody will tell it, you need not go looking for it.
   
   I am the mother of three,.......I raised my hand to my children for playing in the street and with matches........
   what was worse, a spanking, being ran over or burned up?
   
   They made it to  a well adjusted adulthood.  So did  I.........from a harsher generation.

   It should not be the government's place to rule on parenting.  At the same time, how do we draw the line between spanking a child and physically abusing one?  That become a very difficult area to define yet most people who advocate spanking children as punishment are also of the mind that child abusers should be prosecuted. I am not equating spanking with child abuse but I am pointing out that for some people the abuse of a child falls into the same category in their mind. This is the question that must be answered and probably a good reason to say that spanking children may not be the best choice.
   Physical punishment more or less arose from a flairing of temper. Kids were spanked in the heat in the moment and many times without a real explanation as to why.  In the end, the loop does not close and the behavior is repeated.  In today's environment, it is not so much the fact that physical discipline is needed as much as it is that other forms of discipline are not practiced with any consistency thus they fail.  It is not the children who need training, it is the parents.  Ultimately it takes less discipline to spank a child on impulse that it does to take away some of their priviledges and then stick to the punishment.  That is what we need to fix.
