It has been said that if you were to take everything away from everybody, start from scratch, then give everybody exactly the same assets and money that, within a period of a few years, some people would be rich, others poor. The longer the time period, the bigger the differences would grow between the rich and the poor. After many years, some would be fabulous rich, others, destitute.
Obviously there are reasons for this. Without going into morality issues, this is one of the reasons that, in democratic societies with reasonably good governments, there are various services, pensions, facilities set up for those who are not able -through one reason or another - to stay among those who are getting richer. That is one of the reasons governments levy Income Tax and, in theory anyway, tax more those who are richer.
