Facts About: General Geroge Smith Patton Jr

Who is he? When was he born? What about his early life and military career?

His Early Life

General George S Patton Jr was born in San Gabriel California, November 11, 1885 into a family with a long tradition of military service.

He came from a line of ancestors who fought in some of America's greatest Wars such as the War of Independence and the Civil War. General George Smith Patton Jr had one goal as a youth and that was to become a hero.

His Military Life

Known for his leadership as a US Army officer and general during World War II, he developed a reputation for being profane, flamboyant, and impetuous but behind all that, lay the imaginative and shrewd judgement which landed him one of the Great commanders of world War II making him known as a leading genius in tank warfare.

His Last Days

General George S Patton died in December 21, 1945, 12 days later after he was injured in automobile accident. S Patton Jr remains are buried among the soldiers who died in battle of the Bulge, in Hamm, Luxemburg.

When was he born? What about his childhood and adult life?

His Early Life

On 25th August 1919, a farmer in Clio, Alabama had a newborn member added to the family whose name was George Wallace. Corley which was his middle name, was born to George C and Mozell Smith Wallace. George attended local schools along with his siblings and he spent his free time assisting to the needs of his parents farm. In 1936 and 1937 Wallace won the state Golden Gloves Bantamweight Championship at Barbour County High School.

His Military Life

George Wallace studied at University of Alabama and received his degree in the year of 1942. George later served the United States Army Airforce during the World War 2.

His Last Days

George Wallace poor health compelled him to retire from politics in the year of 1987. He later died on the 13th September 1998 of heart failure in Montgomery, Alabama.

General Norman Cota was born on May 30th in the year of 1893 to the son of William George Cota and Jessie H Mason. His early years were spent working at his father's store where he inherited the nickname 'Dutch' from his gang friends at the store. This nickname stayed with him all his life.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt also called FDR for short, was born in Hyde Park (now a national historic site) in the year 1882 on January 30th to one of the oldest families in the New York State: the Roosevelt. He was an only child to his parents: James and Sara Ann Roosevelt who were both wealthy, of English decent and sixth cousins!

Her Young Life

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born in 1884 October 11th at 56 West 37th Street in New York City. Although she was named after her mother Anna, she developed a preference to being called by her middle name Eleanor. The death of her parents in her early childhood life left her prone to depression throughout most of her life. Eleanor Roosevelt attended private finishing school from 1899 to 1902 outside of London where she ended formal education in that year and returned to the United States. She got married at age 20 to her father's fifth cousin Franklin D Roosevelt who was age 23.

      Great lens. I have always liked the one from Patton about telling people what you expect and letting yourself be surprised by their ingenuity, it is exactly how most leaders should work but do not. That attitude must have made Patton a great general. I also like the quote by Sun Tzu: know your enemy and yourself and you will never be defeated in a thousand battles. Which in away is a translation form the saying over gate to the oracles of Delphi: Know theyself.
