Best Natural Makeup for Girls and Teens

Updated on February 1, 2015

Natural, Organic, Gluten-Free Makeup for Girls and Teens

Girls will be girls, and they all love makeup! If you are a mom, that means deciding when your little girl is ready for it. You may start with some lip gloss and glittery nail polish, but soon she will be clamoring for a case full of cosmetics. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has found that the majority of beauty products - including those aimed towards girls and teens - contain chemicals such as phthalates, triclosan, parabens and musks which are harmful for the skin as well as overall health. What is a parent to do? Postpone the inevitable as long as you can, but once you are ready, steer them towards these responsible, toxin free options instead.

I believe that at twelve year old girls should be allowed to wear make up. their aware of the world around them and there growing up . if your daughter loves makeup and your keeping her away from it she might just wear it behind your back. everything should come at the right time . I don't think at twelve they should be wearing bright colored eyeshadow and lipsticks . but perhaps mascara and a little bit of eyeliner should be enough . another thing is if your daughter has really bad acne scars you should allow her to wear something to cover it up even if you don't think make up is right at early teens . acne is hard and it affects many girls self esteem . but like I said everything has to come at a time and its totally up to the parent

I suggest you read the ingredient list for Tarte for teens. They might not include Parabens, but rest assure they have a host full of nasties and Synthetics- there are way better brands. In my own opinion, people really need to understand what these ingredients mean. I know we're all time poor, but we owe it to ourselves to become better informed, don't just believe what you are told. Companies get away with it, because they know that you don't know what the ingredient label actually means, because if you did you wouldn't be using half of them, and that includes the so called natural and organic brands. Don't be fooled, look for organic certification.

I don't have any kids, but if I did, I figure they'd find makeup with or without me. I'd probably start out with a tinted lip balm like the one Burts Bees makes. Maybe some clear mascara.

My 9 year old wears makeup but ONLY during dance competitions, and only a little teeny tiny bit. I never wear makeup, why should she? I don't know how I'm going to teach her when it's time. Great lens, even though I don't want to think about this yet...
