The Good the Bad and the I Need One

We ridicule them on tv, as to how anyone could get that murderer off. Then the phone rings and it’s mom, or honey we’ve got a problem and you need the best criminal defense lawyer your money can buy.

Rarely do we go through life without someone we know or love that hasn’t needed a criminal defense attorney. Yes, we watch them on tv, or read about them online, or in the paper how they got a rapist off, or a bank robber, and wonder how could they do that. We think they are bad people or what type of person would do that for a living.
Then we see the ones that have just had someone released from prison after serving 25 years for a crime they didn’t commit and think how good or great they are for sticking beside them, and believing in them. Sure that’s the rare occasion but let me give you some scenarios that happen everyday and then let you think about it again.

Some take a little more convincing than others.

Scenarios to Make You Think Again

The phone rings, because it’s always the phone unless they haven’t been processed yet and the officer is nice enough to let them use their cell. You pick up the phone and hear;

1) Mrs. Smith (generic) this is the where ever you live police department and we have your husband here at the hospital. He is going to be ok, (the sigh of relief) but we are arresting him for driving under the influence. What, he was going with some guys from work to play golf. Yes ma’am, someone pulled out in front of him and he was in an accident. I understand that’s where they were coming from but we will be booking him after we leave the hospital and thought you should know. Also his coworker that was riding with him was injured pretty bad and might not make it. In other words he’s trying to tell you vehicular man slaughter may be next on the list of charges. Yeah , but he said someone pulled out in front of him. Does it matter if he’s found guilty of DUI? Now who do you want sitting at your husbands table? The attorney that lets him go away for 25 years that will leave your family devastated because he had one to many beers while playing golf, or the best in the business.

2) The phone rings in the middle of the afternoon and it’s; Hi can I talk to Mrs. Smith please this is Mr. Jones the general manager at Macy’s in the such in such mall. This is she. Mrs. Smith I’m calling to let you know we have your 15 year old daughter here Katlin and we are charging her with felony shoplifting so when the officers arrive she will be going to jail. What she’s in school. No Mrs. Smith that is where she was supposed to be, but apparently she and her friend Carrie ditched school and came here instead. But she has money why would she take anything? Mrs. Smith I can’t discuss the case but the items stolen were in excess of $2,000.00 making it a felony. If you would like to come here or meet them at the jail this is a courtesy call because she is pretty upset. Now what do you do, your A and B student, never been in trouble in her life (other than coming home late a few times) is facing a felony. Who do you call? The best in the business or let them be tried as an adult and have a permanent record. Isn’t there an expunge thing, shouldn’t she be in juvenile court or detention, and who should I call about that?

3) The phone rings and it’s your best friend and she is hysterical. I don’t know how this could happen. He has his own business, we have two kids what am I going to do? He didn’t even tell me what the charges were, just that it was two felonies about his company, and I need to go get some money out of the bank and get a bondsman. He wants me to find a good attorney. I don’t know any attorneys and if they’re good or not, what am I gonna do? We could lose everything and I’ve got two babies to take care of. He’s never been in trouble in his life. Do you tell her to just look in the yellow pages close her eyes and point, or to do some research and find one with some references and trial experience?

Sometimes Bad Things Happen to Good People

You see sometimes bad things happen to good people.  We all make mistakes some more than others and then some never seem to get it right at all. But who is there to represent them no matter what? Criminal Defense Lawyers. It doesn't matter if your in California, or New York and a celebrity, or in Florida and a waitress at a local diner, you need someone who can help your case. They are there to do a job and that’s to get a not guilty verdict or the best possible plea bargain when thinking of you and your family, and the consequences that can occur.

How do you choose the right attorney and which one is the best?  Call a few, check them out online for complaints, and look to see if they are board certified for trial experience.  Go meet with them and make sure you have that gut feeling of knowing that he/she is the right one and will do their best.  If you feel rushed or they can’t answer reasonable questions then keep looking. This is you or a loved ones future were talking about here not just a traffic ticket so pay attention and do your homework.

Remember This

Most of all remember they’re only the bad guys until you need one on your side.

Have an incredible day and best of luck whatever the ‘case’ may be.

If you are looking for a criminal defense attorney in or around Polk County Fl, I’ll give you a heads up as to who is the best in the business and that’s Mr. Gil Colon. He is an incredible trial attorney and yet honest enough to tell you there’s no amount of money you can pay him if he doesn’t think there’s a chance. I’ve seen him go to the jail on Sundays when getting ready for a trial or somebody just needed some help, and believe me with his reputation that isn’t something he has to do. He is an incredible person that I would recommend to anyone and I don’t get paid anything for saying so, if that’s what your thinking. I just believe good people who work hard and strive to be the best at what they do, deserve to be recognized sometimes.

As i said have an incredible day., everything happens for a reason sometimes we just push to hard to figure it out before the most valuable lesson is learned
