Curvy Chics

Updated on June 9, 2019

Beauty Beyond Size Two

Curvy chics are some of the most unrepresented women on the internet. In many of the top searches you find Angelina Jolie, Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton etc. Anna Nicole Smith only made it into Lycos top fifty search terms after she died.

It is my hope to change that, even just a little by bringing you content on some of the world's most beautiful and talented plus size beauties.

Curvy Chics come in all sizes but this lens features the higher end of the scale. Whether you call yourself curvy, plus, chunky, or fat -- be proud and thankful for the life you have.

I hope you enjoy getting to know these curvy, talented women.

Books for Fat Girls - From inspirational to educational.

The Fat Girl's Guide to Life
The Fat Girl's Guide to Life

Shanker is here to let the world know that fat people "aren't all jolly, we aren't asexual, we aren't lazy, and we aren't all depressos zoning out in front of the TV sets with ice cream melting down our chins." She wants us all to be able to respect ourselves, our bodies and be able to handle the rude people who aren't comfortable enough in their own lives that they have to try to make someone else unhappy.

Fat! So? Because You Don't Have to Apologize for Your Size
Fat! So? Because You Don't Have to Apologize for Your Size

Fat!So? isn't all about the seriousness of being fat, fat acceptance and standing up for ourselves. Wann likes to have a little fun and it shows in a few of her mock essays, bountiful women cartoons from various artists and other extra goodies that take you from reading to interactive play. It is not the exclusive bible for fat acceptance that it use to be, it's a good read and shows what women have been trying to say for years: Accept me as I am.

Revolting Bodies?: The Struggle to Redefine Fat Identity
Revolting Bodies?: The Struggle to Redefine Fat Identity

Revolting Bodies text is dry and hard to get through. And I went through many passages without having a clue what I was reading about before I hit a nugget that hit home for me. This book isn't for the faintly educated but if you want to move beyond the usual cutesy books normally thrown at us I recommend this one. You will definitely learn something new about our society and culture and the ins and outs of the "fat identity".

Beth Ditto

Stark naked with attitude...

Her fashion sense is extreme, her voice is intense. She has proven again and again that she is not afraid to take chances with her career and the clothes she wears on her back.

She has become a pop culture icon that shows no sign of dissipating; luckily for us!

You can learn more about Beth Ditto in this lens dedicated to her.

A real doll...

She is one of the world's first successful models to continue on a visible career long after her first days of modeling plus size fashions.

She is a genuine role model for women of all sizes and all ages.

You can learn more about Emme in this lens dedicated to her.

Miss Platnum

A little rap with a Romanian slap...

Well loved in her country of Romania and her adopted country of Germany, this plus size song writer and rap artist is shaking up the rest of the world thanks to the long arms of the Internet and YouTube.

She is cute, she is sexy and of course she has a bit of saucy attitude.

You can learn more about Miss Platnum in this lens dedicated to her.

Lizzi Miller Plus Size Model
Lizzi Miller Plus Size Model

Lizzie Miller

Flaunting the pooch...

She is not afraid to show a little pooch and we all love her for it. This plus size model has gone mainstream ever since she bared her bod in a tiny photo in Glamour magazine.

Fashion magazines can not seem to get enough of her and either can we.

You can learn more about Lizzie Miller in this lens dedicated to her.

Velvet d'Amour

The velvety smooth plus size model and actress...

Notorious, sexy, curvy. Just a few creative words to describe Velvet who has been gaining national acclaim from working with designers like John Galliano and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Creative, talented, compassionate. There is a lot more to this intelligent woman than her curves (but they sure do help).

You can learn more about Velvet d'Amour in this lens dedicated to her.

Mia Tyler

More than a cupful...

Giving a little attitude never hurt; especially if you have the curves to back it up. Plus size model, Mia Tyler definitely has the curves. Oh, ya, and she has some attitude to go along with it.

Mia has made the reality TV rounds with shows like Celebrity Fit Club and Mo'nique's Fat Chance and is busy at work on a plus size clothing line with equal attitude.

You can learn more about Mia Tyler in this lens dedicated to her.

Chloe Marshall

Going for gold...

She surprised critics by winning over the judges with brains and curves to win Miss Surrey. Then she had them scared when she ran for the Miss England crown, winning first runner up.

This active plus size woman has a goal in mind, giving beauty pageants something they haven't had in the past... variety! Oh yeah, and a few curves.

You can learn more about Chloe Marshall in this lens dedicated to her.

Chenese Lewis

Loving her body...

This modern day goddess is sending good vibrations through television waves via comedies like Hell Date and talk shows like Dr. Phil. She has her own production company and travels nationally to talk about the impact of body image and self-acceptance.

You can learn more about Chenese Lewis in this lens dedicated to her.

The Beautiful Women Project

The Book

It all started with a simple conversation she had with her 13 year old daughter about her best friend, also 13, who was saving up money for a boob job. Cheryl-Ann was floored (as were we all) and decided to start the Beautiful Women Project in hopes of inspiring positive thoughts about the female body in all its forms.

Read more about the Beautiful Women Project.

Whitney Thompson

Curvy girl wins top slot...

It has been incredibly busy for this full-figure model as she fills the responsibilities for becoming America's Next Top Model and gains recognition of her own.

This curvy beauty has a strong head on her shoulders and will no doubt make the rest of us curvy girls proud.

You can learn more about Whitney Thompson in this lens dedicated to her.

Every girl needs a fat chance...

Fit, fabulous, funny and yes fat. A size 22 to be exact. This multi-talented woman definitely has more going on than the curves on her body.

Monique has been in charge of her career since it began and it shows no signs of stopping.

You can learn more about Mo'Nique in this lens dedicated to her.

America Ferrera

It's good to be ugly...

Her smile is contagious, her eyes sparky and she has a little bit if giggle. Very little really but she's been adopted by body image activists every where.

It all started when, at seventeen, she starred in the Indie film Real Women Have Curves. It has kind of gained a cult following ever since.

You can learn more about America Ferrera in this lens dedicated to her.

Sara Ramirez

The curvy doctor with the mostest...

The curvy beauty who plays Dr. Callie Torres on the hit television show Grey's Anatomy is a beautiful, strong, intelligent woman.

In real she has more than believable acting skills under her belt. She was classically trained at Julliard and has made her stamp on Broadway. She's also not as threatening as or T.V. personae.

You can learn more about Sara Ramirez in this lens dedicated to her.

Nigella Lawson

The English Muffin...

The U.K. beauty that brought the word 'porn' to the culinary arts (food-porn). Her unique style of relaxed cooking for friends and family has made the world fall in love with her.

The hourglass figure, doe eyes and long black main probably had something to do with it too.

You can learn more about Nigella Lawson in this lens dedicated to her.

Kirstie Alley

Life beyond the bikini...

She has been undervalued and heavily ridiculed by the media because of weight for the last decade and frankly I am a little tired of it.

Kirstie is a talented, witty and beautiful woman, mother, actress, writer, and producer.

You can learn more about Kirstie Alley in this lens dedicated to her.

Queen Latifah

The rapping cover girl...

She has strong roots in the rap music industry but she has made a name for herself as an actress, writer and producer. All while still keeping her toes in her musical roots.

A great smile, infectious humor, and curves to die for; the Queen has definitely found her thrown.

You can learn more about Queen Latifah from official website.

Crystal Renn

Modeling on her terms...

This young beauty has already accomplished so much in such a short time. She went from a scrawny, starving waif to a voluptuous plus size role model in a matter of years.

Modeling for some of the biggest designers in the industry is just one of many barriers she is on the road to breaking.

You can learn more about Crystal Renn in this lens dedicated to her.

Plus Size Actress
Plus Size Actress

Melissa Halstrom

A budding actress...

She currently has one Lifetime movie credit to her name but this budding plus size actress is a true power house with an entertaining array of emotions.

Hopefully this Canadian actress will be on the docket some time soon.

Jennifer Hudson

Not taking no for an answer...

When American Idol let Jennifer Hudson slip through their fingers it was possibly the best thing that ever happened to her. Otherwise how could this curvy songstress go on to win an Academy Award (her first time out) for her role in Dreamgirls.

This curvy diva is still acting and belting out the tunes, much to the joy of her adoring fans.

You can learn more about Jennifer Hudson in this lens dedicated to her.

R.I.P. Mia Amber

I was first introduced to plus size model Mia Amber through Plus Model Magazine. I later got to know her through her blog and via short conversations on Twitter. On May 10 Facebook friends received the news that she had died -- no details were given as to the circumstance but the family wanted to let Mia's fans know. The news quickly spread to Twitter where I heard about it and was deeply shocked like many of her followers. As I'm writing this I still cannot believe it. You can leave condolences for the family at Mia's Personal Facebook and Fan Facebook pages. Mia had just finished having her official website updated last month so please visit there too.

To ALL My Phenomenal Diva Sisters from all walks of life... You are my sisters born to different mothers even if we are different ages and colors....

I LOVE YOU.... I APPRECIATE YOU .... I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOU !! I Celebrate, Honor and I Respect You !! ... Know this within your heart

Everyday and share it with any woman who needs to be Uplifted, Inspired & Encouraged daily!

To ALL My Phenomenal Diva Sisters from all walks of life... You are my sisters born to different mothers even if we are different ages and colors.... I LOVE YOU....

I APPRECIATE YOU .... I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOU !! I Celebrate, Honor and Respect You !!

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the "ONE" that I can, and the wisdom to know it's "ME".

There will always be a sister who may always be prettier.

There will always be a sister who may always be smarter.

There will always be a sister who may have a bigger or nicer house.

There will always be a sister who is blessed to have a partner.

So what??? ... Let it Go and LOVE yourself and your circumstances !!

      ~ Think about this ~

The prettiest woman in the world can have hell in her heart with no true peace.

And the most highly favored woman may be unable to have children.

And the richest woman you know... Got the car, the house, the clothes... But might be very lonely with no true love in her life.

Again... Let it Go and say a prayer for each of these sisters... Say a prayer in the same way that you would want someone to pray for you.

And the word says... "If I have not Love, I am nothing."

So please, All My Sisters.... "Love yourself to the Fullest" ... Love who you are. Look in the mirror each morning and smile and see what God sees and mirror Him for He's the only standard, and when you come up short, he will not leave you or forsake you. Count your Blessings every day and may you continue to be blessed.

Smile and say out loud... "I am too blessed to be stressed and too anointed to be disappointed !!"

If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the millions who may not survive the week for the one who kneels to God can stand up to anything. Remember that Jealousy is a very powerful demon that needs to be fought on a constant basis. Instead of looking for what might be wrong in someone else's life, find joy in their joy and sorrow in their sorrow. Don't build yourself up because the "Beauty Queen" has a cheating mate or "Mz. Perfect" has gained 50 lbs. We should Never have to build ourselves up by looking down or finding fault with others for we should find the joy, however small, in our own lives. Let it out !! Share it !!

Take the time to be a Divine Light of Inspiration to uplift another sister's life, heart and spirits for we should always be Positively United.

"Winners make things happen and losers let things happen !!!"

Never let yourself become a willing victim for you are a Queen who deserves the best life has to offer, so never settle for less than you deserve. Be appreciated and grateful for you life - whatever it is. Learn to accept yourself. Be comfortable in your own skin. We only have a short time here on earth, make each moment count. You may be poor, you may be sick, you may be alone, but you can still smile !!!

You have the power to make the ultimate choice of how YOU are going to live.

Be happy not because your life is better than someone else's, but because it's yours and it is a very precious gift from God !!!

"To the world you might be one person, but to one person, you just might be the world."

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.

I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size but when I start to tell them, they think I'm telling lies.

I say, "It's in the reach of my arms, the span of my hips, the stride of my step, the curl of my lips."

      I'm a woman... Phenomenally.

      Phenomenal woman, that's me.

I walk into a room just as cool as you please, and to a man, the fellows stand or fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me, a hive of honey bees.

I say, "It's the fire in my eyes, and the flash of my teeth, the swing in my waist, and the joy in my feet."

      I'm a woman... Phenomenally.

      Phenomenal woman, that's me.

Men themselves have wondered what they see in me.

They try so much but they can't touch my inner mystery.

When I try to show them they say the still can't see.

I say "It's the arch of my back, the sun of my smile, the ride of my breasts, the grace of my style."

      I'm a woman... Phenomenally.

      Phenomenal woman, that's me.

Now you understand just why my head's not bowed.

I don't shout or jump about or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing it ought to make you proud.

I say "It's in the click of my heels, the bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, the need of my care."

      Cause I'm a woman... Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman, that's me... YOU and YOU and YOU... to ALL WOMEN !!

To me there is nothing more attractive than a confident plus size woman. My wife is very curvy and gorgeous. Thanks for having a lens dedicated to curvy women!

Horray! Some people have curves, some don't. We should just maximize what we have. I find it strange when people insist we should all look we came from a body template.

I sang myself a special birthday song recently - it went like this (you know the Happy Birthday tune, I'm sure): Happy Birthday to me, I'm now fifty-three. I'm still roly-poly, never will be skinny.

It's rather ironic, really, that at 53 I actually have the body I thought I had when I was 17 and thought I was fat because I had an hourglass figure with curves instead of the gaunt emaciated waif look so popular in the 60's when I was forming my body image. I would have benefited greatly from seeing curvy role models, so mega kudos to you for doing this for my daughter and other girls like her.

What an awesome compilation of beautiful women! It is a shame that body image has taken a turn in our society that encourages girls and women to starve themselves. Even with starvation, I know at least one person who can not lose down to a size 8 and why should she?!!! She is beautiful just the way she is. I agree with ElizabethJeanAllen, I'll keep my curves!

I'm curvy. My doctor says I should be a little less curvy... I'm working on it, but I'll never ever be thin, It's too much work to maintain. I'll keep my curves.

I love the way you celbrate your "curvyness" - to have peace of mind and accept your own body is such an important life lesson to teach our daughters (I have 3!), you are a wonderful role model! And thank you for Blessing Squidoo Step by Step!

I DO wish the american society would quit shoving the 'skinny minney' women down our throats in media and implying their bodies are the 'ideal' type. I'm 5'1" with a medium body frame. Many women my size look like 9 year olds weighing in between 80-95 pounds. Not me, I'm a whole 135 pounds, but the cameras make me look like a linebacker next to them.

I think women that are 'curvy' should develop a healthy frame of mind and love themselves. Keep you weight and curves, as my sister lost over 100 pounds through the stomach band method, and also lost all the plumpiness in her face. Now she's got wrinkles and looks older than me.

These women are all beautiful. This lens made me think of the eight year-old girls I saw at the mall yesterday ordering diet ice cream. I thought to myself, "Seriously?"

Gorgeous lens, just like you. Perhaps you could have some of your own pics posted as well? I never knew how much my husband loves bigger women until I gained 90lbs with my last pregnancy and only lost half of it. Any issues with that weight gain were definitely my own- not his!! :) With love, Darcie

Great lens. I like "curvy chics" The modern fashion of being stick-thin is great for some people who are naturally thin, but for most people it just doesn't suit them.
