Dan Haggerty

Dan Haggerty
This lens is dedicated to Dan Haggerty, he played Grizzly Adams on one of my favorite shows of all time as a kid, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.
Previous to his simple and down to earth role as Grizzly Adams, did you know that he built motorcycles for and had a small part in the movie 'Easy Rider'! A film starring two young "hippie" bikers played by Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper who are on a personal odyssey. They meet the hippy guy Dan plays in a commune on their trip across America.

The LOVE RIDE

The history of the Love Ride starts in 1981 with the first Biker's Carnival. Harley-Davidson became an official corporate sponsor of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Oliver Shokouh- the young owner of a fledgling Harley-Davidson dealership in Glendale decided to put a fundraising event together and hold it back behind his little shop.
Despite much effort, the first annual Biker's Carnival only raised $1500 for MDA. But, Oliver was determined, so with much work, determination and friends, the LOVE RIDE was born on November 11, 1984.
Peter Fonda did the first LOVE RIDE public service announcement. Robbie Kreiger, of the Doors performed at the event. And, Willie G. Davidson even came out for the ride!
The LOVE RIDE participants throughout the years have accomplished a lot and some of them include: Malcom Forbes, Peter Fonda, Larry Hagman, Robbie Krieger, David Crosby, Eric Burdon, Jackson Browne, Little Feat, Billy Idol, Bruce Springsteen, Dwight Yoakam, the Doobie Brothers, Sammy Hagar and of course Dan Haggerty.
Today, The LOVE RIDE is the largest one-day motorcycle event in the world. It is a place where people come to have a good time, while making a difference in the world we live in. To learn more, please go to http://www.loveride.org.

Hi there Dan! I remember watching your show, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, in the 70's when it first came out and I fell in love with the show right away and I've loved it ever since. About a month ago I was in Walmart and found the first two seasons on DVD. I was ecstatic. I thought, this is wonderful. That night I went home and watched the whole works. It was just like old times. I can definately say without a doubt that I am one of your fans. Keep up the good work, ole' buddy!
We saw Dan on American Pickers last night (2/25/13), he sold them some beautiful items. My husband, Don Keeslar, was the director on his MOW, The Capture of Grizzley Adams. We have the original script and some beautiful photographs of Dan and several of the other stars of the movie. My husband speaks very highly of him.
Hi, I was Honored to work with Dan on a Movie Shot in South Dakota on the Oahe Indian Reservation. I Was Lee Sollenburgers Assitant (Animal Trainer) and Had a Part in the Movie with Dan. We Were Buckos in the Fliver in the Movie. It was Called "Grasslands" then Renamed "Hex", Then Renamed " Charms" Later. Max Raab Productions. We became Friends, He had his Family there, as His wife worked for ther Production Company. His two Daughters came with him, and his Wolf Aquilla when He came to visit his wife. He stayed and became Part of the Movie.
I've been married for 25 years. All I can say about Dan is, " I would soo tag that!" Yes, my husband is a big guy with a beard. LOL
My first real "crush"...and we share November 19th birthdays.....
I think Haggerty is cool. I just hope he isn't some sort of nutty right wing evangelical like his old boss, Charles Sellier. The danhaggertyhome.com message service is a hoot! This is as bad as Pete Rose hocking baseballs on homeshopping network (and I like Haggerty)!
Hey Dan, My mother & I met you @ "The Bread Basket" in Beverly Hills- like YEARS ago. You were with your beautiful wife & agent @ the time. You asked me what I did & I said "I write lyrics" -and you gave me Ringo Starr's #'s (but I chicken-ed out). Now I wish I hadn't. If you remember this event at all, please e-mail me @ arlakitty1@gmail.com. Thank you- you were very sweet & sincere.
I am a major fan of Mr. Haggerty. I grew up watchin him. I also had the blessed priviledge to meet Mr Haggerty at Silver Dollar City in 2009. It was the most wonderfully fantastic event of my life.. I would love to have an email p.o.box or something so I can write to Mr.Haggerty myself. However I'm not very good with this online stuff so it is kinda hard for me to find things. It would mean the world to me if I could write to Mr.Haggerty. Please, If there is a way for me to do so could someone let me know? Thank you.. Michelle J Lyles Erwin
I met Dan in 1988 in Long Beach Ca. We were at a resturant in Bellmont Shore near the Queen Mary. I did not believe it was him and I asked to see his ID. He was a very nice person!
I loved Grizzly Adams. Thanks for all the great Dan Haggerty information. I never heard the Walk of Fame star removal story before. I enjoyed your lens.
High five to the poster above -- another "little girl" who used to live for the night that Grizzly Adams was on the air! Dan impacted so many of us! His show was my escape -- and when I wasn't watching, I spent countless thousands of hours pretending and dreaming. Today, so many of the favorite memories I've built with my son are of camping, fishing, hunting, hiking with my son, and with my step dad who just recently passed on. Dan, thank you for first sparking that interest in this 'little girls' heart -- it has helped to build a lifetime of wonderful memories and a passion for the world around us!
I just love Dan
