Donald Trump and his Muslim travel ban to America

Updated on February 6, 2017

The Ban

In his first week in office, Donald Trump signed an executive order banning entry of Muslims from 7 nations namely Syria, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Sudan and Somalia. In one stroke nationals from these nations were barred from entering the USA. It was a draconian act and defied explanation. The ban against a select 7 nations needs study and shows the mindset of the president. I am afraid it shows him in poor light.

Luckily the US courts have stayed the ban after a chaotic week with an agitation that swept across America. Probably the president never realized that this could happen and he went on twitter to deride the judge.

Dissecting the Ban

The ban appears to be on the face of it an attempt to show that the president means business and the safety of America. But a deeper study will show that the travel ban was not only ill thought but only involved playing to the gallery. In no way will the ban make America a safer place.

Let's look at the nations selected by Donald. These are poor and impoverished ( except Iran) and are no great shakes as military powers. They cannot, in any case, hit back at the USA and the sad part is that not one national from these nations have ever taken part in a terrorist attack against America. The exception may be Iran, but there is a convoluted relationship between the USA and Iran that goes back to 1953 when the CIA engineered a coup and put the Shah Reza Pahlavi on the throne.

Another dissection will show that Donald who is an astute businessman has no interests in these 7 nations. In real terms the countries whose nationals have been involved in terror attacks in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Egypt are not included as Donald has substantial interests in these countries. Hence the ban was not with an intent to make America safe but simply to win some brownie points with his supporters.

The bulk of the US president's supporters is the low educated working class and these people would be delighted as they would not understand the sinister design of Donald which in real terms has no meaning. In effect, Donald shot himself in the foot and let him open to the charge that he had an ulterior motive in this ban and safety of America is not that motive.

The Courts step in

The ban was thoughtless and ignored ground realities. Including Iraq was self-defeating and many Iraqi soldiers who are fighting the ISIS must be wondering what wrong they have done. Men who had sided with the USA against the ISIS and their ilk, good Muslims were left in the lurch. One wonders how thoughtless could Donald be. But again that is the character of the man as he makes cosmetic changes and ignores ground realities with the underlying foundation being his business interests. Otherwise, no way could Saudi Arabia nd Pakistan be left out of the ban. Taking on the poor helpless nations is typical of a bully and Donald is one.

The US courts have stepped in and the ban is stayed. There is all around relief, albeit temporary but the case in all probability will go to the Supreme Court and there again a tie could be expected thus leaving the stay in place. Donald has one ace up his sleeve as earlier in 1882 the Chinese exclusion act was passed to debar Chinese from entering the USA. It remained in force for 62 years and was rescinded only in 1943.

Donald may quote this as a precedent, but the courts may or may not uphold Donald's ban. For the time being there is breathing space and the world better realize that Donald is basically a businessman and when he talks about making America great, the refrain is hollow. That is his last priority. Self-aggrandisement is the name of the game.

the wall street journal has "phased out" an editorial writer who was critical of trump. wanted to mention trumps mafia ties....big nono.

trump fired ag who wouldnt co-sign his muslim ban...

mark my words, if allowed to continue, sites such as hubpages will be encouraged to "ease up on trump criticism" if they want to stay in business.

      time is getting short.

you republicans in congress better act fast...mccain, graham, counting on you.

      this is your baby.

steve miller: "our opponents will see, as we begin to take further actions, that the powers of the president will not be questioned"

.....better hurry. they are dismantling the very safeguards that prevent this sort of thing from happening, and putting yes-men in positions of power...the very fact he calls the judiciary "opponents", instead of an equal branch of gvt serving the american people, tells you all you need to know.

this is war for them. like a corporate raid and take-over. and the prize is a unitary executive with all our treasures at his fingertips.

i am saving all my prayers for the good guys in deep state.

and keep up the protests and join the general strike feb 17...

Since the courts got involved, I think there has been a ray of hope. I see the Trump supporters are still trying to muddy the water of this situation by stating (incorrectly) that the original executive order is not a Muslim ban. I'm not going to go into the twist of logic on that one. Point being, some checks and balances have been restored....ultimately the people need to be another "check and balance" in this situation. Once again, great article and great insight on this contentious issue.

Thank you for your comment and thoughts. We will have to await such an event happening as it does not look likely. The best bet is to oppose this man tooth and nail.

yes, i am pessimistic. because ive seen it all before, and here we go again.

i truly think the only answer for usa is to become two separate nations.

either that, or at any point in time, half the people are forced to be under a rule that goes against their grain.

if people could say, live and let live itd be ok. but that doesnt happen.

people feel compelled to make other people live how they see fit. might as well live with people who share our beliefs!!!

usa splits pretty much down the middle politically....lets just get a divorce!

Dear love my Chris aren't you a bit too pessimistic ? Things do look bad but it will even out and I am sure for all you know Donald may not finish his term.

yes, but hes just going to "lawyer it up"and try again. and, as we speak, checkpoints have been established, and people are being rounded up, guilty or not. medical researchers, students on visits to family, little children have been refused entry to their home country--here.

republicans have house, senate and presidency. once he gets his supreme court pick, its all over.

and the millions who dont want his america will just be silenced.

he will use military to stop the protests...10 states are already working on ways to make protest illegal...just as they have made abortion impossible to get.

his new fcc guy will clamp down on the internet, and his men in key positions will do something about that "liberal" hollywood. we already see spicer's press conferences littered with breitbart news and right wing talk radio hosts asking leading questions.

soon, it will be trump (breitart) tv, and nothing else. much like state sponsored rt, which general flynn works for.

the thing we dont understand is how little it takes to take over. he just needs key people in positions of power...and looks to me like hes getting everyone he wants.

if gorush (fascism forever) gets in, forget it. its a done deal. the coup is complete. bloodless. they did it through the mind.

dictators unite. putin is worth 85 billion. you dont think trump is drooling to get there? i do.

my opinion is we better start learning how to live in a christian, police state dictatorship....trumpland.

Trump has been checkmated by his travel ban. This shows that he has misread the constitution and the power of the courts as a check on whimsical orders. Hitler could achieve hs aim by burning the Reichstag and blaming it on communists. America is 20 times size of Germany and there are checks and balances in force. It can't happen in America. In case the courts have stayed Donald's Muslim ban, then obviously there is something repugnant in it that has made the courts strike it down.

right! i believe what i believe, not what you believe!

or is it possible you dont realize your beliefs are propoganda to me??

its what we argue about ad nauseum infinitum day after day, after day.....and why?

i say split the country, red and blue.

      two separate fed gvts.

      live and let live.

its only matter of time before we all agree. what we're doing now is just stupid and a waste of life.

well, six muslims were just killed by a trump supporter, 9 black innocents were killed in church by that white supremacists kid. john dear killed how many for "selling baby parts"?? i dont remember how many died. "tiller-the-baby-killer"was gunned down in church...in front of his grandchildren. that wack job in norway who shot up a school....rabid right wing ideologist. your prez saying if hillary gets elected, there are "second amendment solutions".

not to mention the gun violence that plagues poor areas of usa.

i mean, to me, this is more a problem than radical islam.

and trump didnt even mention the muslims shot while they prayed.

so, really, if we took a head count, deaths here from fellow americans swamps those by "terrorists"....and really, anybody pointing a gun at you is inflicting terror. they have your life in their hands.

so, calling them all christian terrorists is wrong....but much of it is homegrown.

and i wont even start on kkk in the police force.

as far as my hubby, thanks for the apology!

youre right to stick your degrading insults to me. ;-))

"...more people in america are killed by militant christian terrorists than muslims?" Just another example of your wild imagination with nothing whatsoever to back up your continuing bizarre narratives. In fact, each sentence was one false statement after the other. Don't you ever get tired of pushing propaganda? It amazes me that the Intolerant Left doesn't even pretend to tell the truth. It's as if all of you have actually convinced yourselves that all the made up nonsense is actually true. Amazing!

By the way, I should not have brought your husband into this discussion. I apologize for that.

      hahaha!!!

my husband is IN prison for the same reason dahnald dahling sits in that seat:

      good ole boy network.

yes, im intolerant of it. sick to death of it to be honest. do you know, more people in america are killed by militant christian terrorists than muslims?

when does liar-in-chief tell you that? he cant. thats his base!

easy access to guns is the problem here in america. any nut job who listens to fox and trump can get one.

and we all know what second amendment solution means *wink**wink*

yes, its people like that...the ones who go to church on sunday, but hate you on monday....thats the problem.

until the hold that white supremacy has is over, my husband wont be free, nor will we.

that is really the problem. that, and

having to own women. and i hope we can get over it. im tired. tired of fighting.

but, as long as dumpy trump keeps lyin, what choice is there?

we deserve our real prez, hillary.

we deserve not to have to repeat bush over again...which is what we are doing:

pushing fear, and lying... after a stolen election.

yeah, but donny is in deep doodoo. he lies about not knowing putin, or having business with him...its out there in documents and video!

scott dworkin has given copy of his report to congress, lets see what comes of it...and trump shut off recording when he was speaking to putin...from OUR white house! supposedly doing OUR business.

      he's going down.

but the others need to go down too. all those republicans who knew of all this, and squashed it...

      mcconnell, chaffetts, etc.

from dossier, it was trump, guliani and erik prince who strong-armed comey to release that letter...you know erik prince--blackwater mercenaries, and his sister is betsy devos...

imagine...a vast right wing conspiracy...and thats not even going back to dick cheney dayz...

this makes watergate look like a day in preschool.

i cant wait for sunlight to hit this....decades of sadistic greed and money grubbing, in our name, and at our expense.

treason is too nice a word.

When will people learn. Government is a business controlled by Business men. "Make America Great", "Ban Muslims" whatever disguise they parade under, its all about making money and control the sheep. How come he never banned Russia for hacking into US voting system? Americans are so naive.

of course its a muslim ban. he said he'd ban them during election...all of them. he's aligned himself with the radical right, who paint this world as as a war beteeen evil muslims and saintly, perfect judeo-christians. his advisor bannon is a long-time muslim basher, and we all know he calls the shots.

trump calls it a ban all the time on twitter.

guliani said he was asked to craft a muslim ban. and he got help from peter king. peter king!!!! an islamophobe of the highest order!

its a muslim ban. he's governing to suit end timers and zionists the world over.

notice he said nothing about that supporter of his who shot and killed 6 muslim men as they prayed. not a word. and why would supporting trump cause anyone to want to kill muslims? ask yourself that.

its been accelerated muslim hate and false flags since 9/11.

      imo

Yves....It positively amazes me, the fabricated language used to spread the lunacy. What's a made-up word here & there within a completely misquoted statement? And all of this from those masquerading as educated individuals with erroneous yet allegedly-valid opinions to share with people who can do nothing but hold back the laughter created by utter stupidity.

When I'm not shaking my head in disbelief for the raging ignorance, I'm squelching laughter & otherwise, yawning from boredom. There truly is no hope for these pathetic, mental midgets.

What idiocy. It is not a Muslim ban. At least make a feeble attempt to tell the truth. On second thought, never mind. The Intoletant left doesn't care about truth. They only care about adjusting facts to fit their narrative.
