RAIPUR, India (Reuters) - Doctors in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh performed hysterectomies on poor village women without a valid medical reason in order to claim money from a national insurance scheme, the state's health minister said on Wednesday.

Under the program launched in 2008, doctors can claim up to 30,000 rupees ($540) to treat poor families, providing a safety net to help pay for expensive hospital surgeries. But critics say the program was exploited by unscrupulous doctors.

StacieL. India is one of those places that is famous for organ thefts. For some reason the practice is common. Among Indian doctors and practitioners there are some who will steal blood, others who will steal hair follicles and even some who will steal  teeth.
No-one understand why this type of theft is common among some indian doctors. It appear to have supersistious reasons as well as motives of greed and gain. That is not to say at all that every Indian medic will do these things. Never the less it is common place across India.
