I am seriously concerned about the political stalemate in this country. I would like to know from Conservatives, Liberals and Libertarians what is causing this deep divide? This Forum is for Liberal posts only. There is also one for conservatives and I will do one for libertarians.
Thanks for your comments in advance.
I believe there are those who want and are trying to lead and those who are in it for greed. And, there are the people who go home to tired to see what is happening in politics and instead watch dancing with the stars and they vote for their equivalent of their favorite football team without checking out each player. I would say the lust for power and the love of money is the cause.
While I do not claim any political leaning, my understanding tells me that it is the Marxist allegiance of the president which has divided the people: haves vs have nots, blacks vs whites, woman vs men, old vs young, progressives vs conservatives, left vs right, republicans vs. democrats. Divided we fall United we stand. Oldest trick in the book. We have fallen for it and we are buying it. The crooks will pick up the pieces after we fall. People of any strong nation must stand together.
Peoplepower: I don't think that "squeeknomore" is a "liberal." At least his/her response is not one I'd expect from this sector. His/her view is this vs. that, and it has always been that way, and probably should be. We are not a herd of cattle. People from different regions and backgrounds will naturally have their differences. He infers that this inherent difference is some sort of liberal "trick," but the answer is actually more complicated. If everyone is aware that something is a "trick" then how can it work?
For me, it is a matter of two parties selling policy/procedure/product in two different styles based on a moral basis. Presently, the liberal faction is succeeding because it is selling a product that is more widely accepted by the populace.
The ruling party must (whether it likes it or not) base its platform by the majority opinion, and the conservatives have boxed themselves in with non-gliding barriers. They are the losing party because their platform is based on "no change" or a "change backward" while the majority is ready to move forward.
If conservatives want to remain relevant in any meaningful terms, the constituency must be fluid and adjust to the times and impetus of the majority. Currently, they are regarded as either stagnate or retrograde. Though it may break the hearts of many (especially the neoconservatives) the country is ready for some substantial changes, and the diversions and deceptions of old are now transparent and will no longer pull forth a majority of voters.
I honestly believe the propaganda is causing the divide. After election our country would have went back to business as usual, the people spoke, Obama won, that's that...but, Instead of hearing ANY reports on bipartisanship, the squak box keeps highlighting the dividing issues. It seems they are getting somewhere on immigration, you never hear these stories. I am soooo bored with the gun controls reports, forums, etc. All of the division pumped up during election has been magnified due to our media. We have real problems in this country, and whining and arguing will not solve these issues.
I honestly didn't know whether to reply here or on the Libertarian forum. Is there such a thing as a Liberal/Libertarian? I agree that propaganda and the distortion of what we receive via the media has played a part in the "why". Money as always is also a factor but in the past even being a "have" or a "have not," hasn't caused the gaping chasm I see between political parties. Quite frankly I think that even after 4+ years of leadership many still can't accept the fact that President Obama (who happens to be an African American (and so?) is at the helm. Issues are looming i.e. gun control, taxation regulations, economic uncertainty but then when haven't they. I have no answers except I was taught that a nation divided is doomed to eventually fail. Great forum-I will be reading closely both this and your other two forums to see how others may be interpreting this excellent question.
Due to school system indoctrination, the people think they can go along with these "new" fluid ideas. These "changes," however are not new. LOL They have never worked for any socialist dictator throughout the world, throughout time. It is impossible to harness the same amount of energy from a nation of over-regulated and overly-taxed people as from a nation of free thinkers and free people. The people in a socialist dictatorship become extremely lethargic. As what has happened here with the overly regulated socially engineered welfare state, with the sky is the limit attitude from all the crooks. (BTW Very little of the money collected to fund welfare gets to the needy. 78 cents out of every dollar goes to fund the bureaucracies.) These crooks immediately get involved with dumbing down the school system, teaching the benefit of welfare and taxation. Example of failed socialist dictatorships include Russia and North Korea.
squeeknomore: Based on your comments, I think it would be more appropriate for you to post them in the Conservative Forum that I created. This one is for Liberals. But I do appreciate your comments and thanks for dropping by.

Or does it just seem that way because the Democrats/liberals are less vocal about it? Lately it seems to me there are many many more conservatives and their agendas being pushed at us. I usually keep away from politics entirely, but if it is true that most of the forum posters are...

How can the U.S. heal its political divides? We're increasingly in a tribal mentality of red vs. blue. As a libertarian, I'm concerned that people are not able to get along or do what's best for the country anymore; they want two dramatically opposed visions for the future of the country and do not...

If president Obama is reelected, he will probably be nominating another Supreme court justice maybe more, does this put the fear of god into the right wing nuts that have enjoyed decades of a majority in the supreme court?
