Silent Suffering Of Children

   Millions of children have been subjected to the most heinous and horrific of acts-sexual abuse.  Oftentimes such abuse occurs in the hand of those children trust such as relatives, teachers, and other trusted adult authority figures.    Many celebrities such as M'onique, Oprah Winfrey, and Vanessa Williams have recounted childhood sexual abuse. 
   
   Many children silently endure such sexual abuse.   Some are afraid to tell because either they were threatened by the perpetrator or when they do tell, they are the ones who are blamed and/or not believed at all.    Such insidious abuse should not be swept under the rug but to be investigated and the perpetrator/perpetrators to be FULLY PROSECUTED to the fullest extent of the law.   
   
   I would like to add institutional sexual abuse of children like religious authorities sexually abusing children must stop and the perpetrators are not to be treated with kid gloves, they should be thoroughly expelled and imprisoned for life with no parole.   
   
   Childhood should be a time of freedom from worries and cares.  It should be a time of trust.   Children are precious entities, they should be loved, protected, and respected.   Treat our precious children with dignity and the humanity they deserve.  Let's discuss this.

   I have been fighting on how to make a way to serve God in all of this troubles. I found myself alone and I decided to fight by PRAYER. I pray everyday at home for all the troubles in this world. PRAYER is the best weapon.

   gmwilliams, thanks for your concern. These troubles are irritating to our ears. We need to act through prayers not by force so as not to inflict harm towards fellowmen.

      There need to be more strictures regarding the sexual abuse of our children.    When children tell their parents and/or other relatives, the latter should listen, go to the perpetrator, and to report him/her.    Sexual abuse is NOT TO BE TOLERATED one iota.    Your child is important, no husband, no stepfather, and/or other adult in your life is more important than your child.   YOUR CHILD  is the MOST IMPORTANT.     
      
      Religious authorities who abuse children in such fashion should be severely taken to task, reported, and excommunicated from their respective religions.    Sexual abuse should not be ignored but thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.    We must listen to our children so they can heal from this horrendous ordeal so they can proceed and succeed in life.   So many children suffer psychologically from this.   Many are immobile and thwarted in their lives because of this insidious act.   
      
      Those who were victims of this evil should talk to someone who will listen.   Write a journal and please, please, please go to therapy and discuss this with a trusted and qualified psychologist.  Do not be silent any more for that means that the perpetrator still has power over you.   TAKE YOUR POWER AS A HUMAN BEING BACK!

         I agree with everything you have written.  One thing we have to address is that parents sometimes believe their child is lying when they report sexual abuse directly to the parent.  Parents are supposed to protect their children but often do not.  Sometimes, they even tell the child not to tell anyone else.  Yet, when schools or other government organizations try to educate young children about what to do if they are abused, parent and religious organizations protest that children should come to their parents first.  I'm not sure that is a good way to handle sexual abuse, since it is frequently being perpetrated by a relative or close friend of the family.
         
         Edited to add:  I personally know two people who were sexually abused as children.  Both of them were accused of making it up when they reported it to their mother and both of them were warned not to say anything to anyone else.

            Yes.   There are some parents who refuse to believe their children when they report sexual abuse, particularly if it involves a "beloved" family member and/or a "trusted" authority figure.   These parents staunchly avow that such people "would never" do anything that egregious to their children so in their eyes, their children are lying and have an excessive imagination.   Such children suffer in silence, feeling that the most important and significant people in their lives discount their stories.   That or the parents totally minimalize such stories.    Many parents still find it difficult to believe that family members and clergyman are capable of such abuse.    If parents do not believe the child, the child should NEVER keep silent and keep reporting the issue until SOMEONE believes them.

   One of the real reasons we have so many issues with child sexual abuse is because there is so very little time served in jail by offenders. 30 to 40 % of all offenders sever NO time. In my case my father was sentenced to 10 years time served because he had cancer by the time they caught him and they claimed he was already going to die. 15 years later the man is still living, and never had to pay for his crimes. Our system is BROKE. Sadly I believe it is broke beyond repair. We have politicians too concerned with putting people who do drugs in jail to take care of the real problems. It will never stop.
