A devastating forest fire is moving closer and closer to your home. Although the firefighters have done their best to contain the roaring inferno; it is moving in it destructive path toward your home. You only have time to pack one large box of items before you will need to evacuate. What will you bring?
I would bring:
• Pictures of my family
• My prescription medication
• A First Aid Kit
• Several changes of clothing
• Shoes
• My laptop and IPad
• Toiletry Items
• My purse with ID and cash
• Toilet Paper
• My diplomas
This happened this summer to me and my family. Luckily the fire never got quite close enough for an evacuation, but we did have to pack an emergency kit and have it ready in the truck just in case. This is what we packed:
1 case of 24 bottles of water
Change of clothes for up to 3 days
Toiletry it with items such as soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, prescription meds, etc.
ID, some cash, and ATM and Credit cards
Some easy to prepare food
Camp stove
Tent
WOW ... that sounds like a great emergency kit!
OMG how could I forget water?! Guess I'll have to get some from the local store!
My pets would fill the box so we would just have to wing it from there
ID and irreplaceable or hard to replace paperwork (birth certificate, deeds, etc)
My glasses
Money
Car keys
All computers or at least their hard drives
Dog & Cat food
Sleeping bags
Leashes for the critters
First aid kit and any meds the critters need (I don't take meds.)
Toiletry items
Cellphone & camera
Several gallons of water
A few days worth of warm clothing.
Shoes, and several changes of socks
Any weapons or hunting gear I own
My Tarot deck (that's how I make my living)
Hubby's ballroom dance clothes (that's how he makes his living)
As much preserved food as will fit in the box
(And of course I'm taking my cats and dogs, though not in the box)
I actually had a house fire some years back. The place burned down in 5 minutes. We got the dog, cat and ourselves out, and that was it. Hubby's drivers license was in the car, fortunately. Thanks to stupid regulations and paperwork hoops we're still trying to get my license back. I ended up barefoot in
the snow.
Everything else, including our computers and irreplaceable data (and much of my writing), photos, my magick tools, and at least 6 months worth of food burned to a crisp.
WOW ... that is really bad when your important and cherished documents are destroyed. We do not expect these things to happen but often enough what we don't expect is what generally happens. Even if we do not have a physical list handy; we need to have a mental picture of what we need in case of an emergency!
I was fortunate that my Mom and I exchange our writing on a frequent basis, so she had copies of my latest novel in progress (since published because she saved the day!) and a few others.

I’ve been following, with ever-greater concern, the story of how Artificial Intelligence has slithered into our culture and taken hold. This week brings particularly alarming news.If you had told me, fifty years ago, when I published my first book (the year was 1973; I was 19) that the day...

FYI, cost of living in my country is relatively low(but with less privilege). I wonder how much others need to earn to survive considering you don't need to save or you're not preparing for anything(insurance)

I recently watched a documentary on nat-geo about the pyramids and machu picchu and other archaeological sites ... it talked about the way the stone is cut to such precision, which cannot even be matched by stone sculptors with all the advanced equipment we have today... the huge rocks used in...
