Why does the left reject American history ?

   There are , perhaps a  leftist fringe ,   forum dwellers who reject outwardly the teachings of elementary, junior high and high school , US history .     More importantly perhaps ,  why ?     Considering that  in a brief , incomplete and under-informed  education  system as is  the American public schools system , Why do you think  there's such a hatred of US. history today?

      My gosh, Ed - I never realized there is such a hatred of American history today, but, now that you brought it up I can see why it may be true. Many people in America are here illegally and do not want to know our history because they want to change the way things are - or, there are those who are legal citizens and just don't care about or like our history and want to change things. With the current administration we have it is easy to see why some people are not true or Good Americans. This is my opinion. Thanks for bringing up the question.
      
      Edit: The thought is very discouraging for me because I research and write a lot about American history.

         I have a history degree, and I see no such trend. I take offense at the idea that the Obama administration is responsible for people not being true and good Americans. I think that all of that is unsubstantiated and just so much rubbish, but then, thats just my opinion, too.

            I went back a couple times and re-read the thread. I tried parsing the lines and looking for code words. But I still missed the reference, (to this point), that inferred it was Pres. Obama's fault.

                  I did indeed miss that passage. A weak defense would mention that it was buried down in a large block of text. A smarter answer would be to admit that my...... nah... already had my double dose. That's good enough for tonight.
                  
                  As further atonement... to the point of the OP, I think that as I read his comment, starting with his opening sentence, it seems to be directed at forum personalities.  I try hard to remember how far it is from here to there when associating forum projections with the intentions of the people behind them.
                  
                  Of course there are fringes in the forums. Left, right, and chuckleheads, but when you see a comment that you think is obviously from a "fringe," How can you be sure it is a duck, and you're not getting played?

                     I did not want to think that I was 'hypersensitive', imagining things as the basis of my comments.
                     
                     It is never personal, even with the most challenging of an adversary. But I have a superb opportunity to break up any support for the 'Right' using unfortunate posters who make poor presentations and lack a rational foundation for his or her point of view. Much like hitching a ride on a passing SF trolley going your direction rather than walk. Such individuals shall feel the point of my sharpened pen for all the world to see.

      Your assertion has no basis in fact, who is rejecting American history. I am more worried about Textbooks writers in Texas that are rightwriting American history textbooks deliberately avoiding historians in favor of janitors and car salesmen.

      Using the word “hatred” is hyperbole. I am not aware of any broad ideologically based “hatred” of American history originating from any political quadrant. You did not indicate what events have caused you to reach this conclusion either.
      
      However, this may be a chance for me to learn. Why don’t you be specific, state a few examples, and reference some verifiable sources, so that we can establish that we are discussing reality and facts rather than just unchecked cynicism?

         For instance ,  talk about American Indians  or manifest destiny or western expansion in America or any American history  , and it turns to Columbus being  a   syphilis spreading rapist of  Sacajawea .  One basic uninformed , prepackaged  response to all historical  discussion   
         
         Of course this is the Columbus who never set foot on American soil.  But generally  the fact that few of our young have an interest in OR  anything but a definitely politically correct   recall as to facts , events , or  interest in American history .   Its simply too 'popular' today to hate  America  and  it's history, but at the same time , knowing SOO  little about it .

            The influence of television is unmistakable when it comes to where many people get their information and historical facts. Combine that with the many fairy tales we are told about history in the school system and the studies required by the school system and it is a wonder any history can be reported accurately. We have sheltered our children from the world in many ways and that even goes towards the volunteer Armed Services. I know of one young woman who was completing her masters in college who told me what a horrible injustice it would be to her to be forced to serve. I have had many conversations with people in their thirties and forties who have very little knowledge as to how their government works or represents them or even how to register to vote. Where is the civics class in their past? We are growing an ever increasing class of lemmings who will be stuck on the running wheel in a cage if they don't wake up. Once again this is our fault.

               I agree !  And , so little can be taught in a hour a day  for a couple of years about our history , Maybe a little less  computer time ,  a few less field trips ,   More "book time "  , Everyone says not enough historical  truth is taught , well lets spend more time ON history .   Our school grads , high school and college  , are basically  dumb to US.  history  and government  operations as well as  'problems of democracy ', but they sure know the politically correct negativity  about America . .

                  I would think that the syllabus would and should include information that makes you think about the choices and events that took place. What it resulted in and what was learned or not learned from the events that took place. What we now have are videos explaining digested and manipulated information to mold or train the student to believe what the educators or in many instances what the politicians and focus groups want to be taught or understood. Look at the real history of Columbus, Pocahontas, the Pilgrims etc. Recent discoveries that were not available to us show a far different story than the wonderful fairy tales we were led to believe. We never learn what wars are really fought about and how to fight them when we do. Is it that we can't handle the truth or is it that we should not learn from the truth so we can be controlled at our very basic levels? This country will never progress as long as we are straddled with beliefs of history rather than the truth and we will be doomed to repeat what we never learned.

                     Well we certainly can't teach eight or ten year olds about the  extreme violence of certain historical accounts .  for instance the gas chambers  and Hitler must be kept for students of  junior high or so ,   the complicated and diverse violent  history of  American Indian wars ,  a certain amount of info will always be saved for older  youth .  But our youth and young  adults are quite uninformed for sure . Maybe it's just simply  too complicated   to compress into time sensitive segments ?  But they certainly are given  abrupt and sanitized  teachings far short of  full histories.  AND  more utopian political   teachings of  present world conditions.

                        I agree that these historical facts of violence and corruption should be held for an older more mature student but why the fairy tales in it's place? Some of the events recorded never took place is all I am saying and an accurate and even age appropriate account would be more effective. Once you lie to a youngster you become fallible and teaching becomes problematic with an untrusting mind.

And have we ever lied to our young !   Besides the fact that the education system in America is severely slanted  towards  fairy tales as our  history , our young and not so young adults are ignorant to true history or ANY history at all    ,  when we forget [ or never learn of our pasts  ] we are bound to repeat our mistakes .   I agree with what you are saying ,  but where do we change this and how ?

                              I am sorry to say it needs a political solution. Many parents don't even bother voting where many school boards come from. They are driven into the ground by the NEA and that is their focus.

      Because true American history refutes what they hold dear. Their belief that an enlightened government (one led by leftists), needs to guide the benighted masses to a fictional socialist utopia. True history demonstrates this to leads to absolute deprivation and tyranny therefore true history needs to be altered to fit their narrative. History also points to Christianity as being central to our Constitution, institutions and founding, this idea is absolutely abhorrent because it threatens the leftist religion of an enlightened government leading the way to eternal bliss.

      Because there is a war on truth.  If you are only interested in truth when it suits you, then truth becomes a very pesky thing, especially when others point it out.  So its not given its rightful place, its put below what some would rather "prefer" to be true.  Rewriting history turns out to be a super self destructive "shooting of oneself in the heart and mind, if not the foot. "  To what end?  THAT is an excellent question.  We do know that rewriting history or denying it doesn't change the actual facts of matters.  Believing deceptions becomes preferred, thus preferring what comes with that.  What comes with that is usually never good, and thus the big question of why?  It doesn't gain any ground, and if it is done to feel good, that is fleeting as well because the result is far worse that just accepting the truth of history in the first place.  To learn from it.
      
      I am convinced more than ever, people don't want and can't handle the truth, and treat it like an enemy.  I only post things like this in order to practically beg them to ask themselves why.  Some don't care to look inward.  I believe true satisfaction comes from embracing the truth, warts and all.  Embracing the lies isn't looking so wonderful, so why not just accept the truth and being able to respond to it helps more lives overall and ongoing?

   I read clear back in the 1990's that Clinton was allegedly rewriting the history books. For example, at that time I recall looking and there was only one previous president who was claimed to have been a Mason. Over the years these claims have included more and more presidents among others. LOL
