   After the Sharpeville Massacre Mandela set about creating a manifesto of Umkhonto we Sizwe. This got him into trouble for treason. Which was odd because I thought you needed to be a citizen of a country before you could commit treason against it.

   He spent 27 years in prison (as apolitical prisoner) - treason but this did not silence him.  He continued to advocate for his people even when in jail.

He joined the political party  which goal was to ovethrow the ruling white governemt and replace it with the government representing equally all the races and minorities of South Africa...

   Nelson Mandela was jailed for treason by South Africa´s racist regime and he was in jail for 27 years.He remains a reference leader worldwide for his reconciliatory attitude and in the unity of South Africa across racial lines.He is also admired for not being power hungry.He left governance after serving just one term when he could have stayed for the second term without any constitutional or legal deviance.

   He opposed the aparthied regime and oppression in the colonial rules and he was in prison for a duration of 27 years.
