All of these private companies are known to have agreements with federal agencies, but the public has never seen them.
   
   In public comments submitted to the Office of Management and Budget, EPIC notes it has obtained documents that show federal agencies have negotiated these contracts with the private sector in violation of "existing statutory privacy rights." Those agencies include: Department of Defense, Department of the Treasury, and the National Security Agency..."

      So what? You have a choice. Your informations are only taken when you visit the sites. You have a choice to stay away from gov. sites.

   Do you mean on Hubpages?  I actually do not believe all the conspiracy theories around Obama, and he is doing his best in a situation where the economy is not in the greatest shape.

      Yes. I admitted it was inflammatory stuff i.e. the videos that were made...but the links to where the video makers got their information from included government sites.

   anyway, what do you think about what the link article said...had Google signed? is this reversing of a ban on tracking users, true?
   why would they do that, and why shouldn't it bother people that it is done?  We had enough of that with the previous administration.

   The article is trying to make it all sound menacing, but this is something the government has to do to participate in Adsense.
   
   Adsense tracks user movements to better target their ads. Website owners had to either agree to change their privacy policy to allow this or they had to stop participating in Adsense.
   
   If the government really wants this information, they can get it by a variety of means. Google would probably just hand it over, like they did in China.
   
   The fact that the government is changing their privacy policy on .gov websites is pretty irrelevant, it is just a symbolic issue with libertarian types. The article is just trying to find some way to fan the flames with right-wing militia types.
   
   This is a drop in the bucket compared to what the last administration did in terms of privacy rights, but Obama is a Democrat, so this must be part of the secret agenda of the UN, Trilateral Commission, the Illuminati, the Rothchilds, and the Greys...

      I never know when people are kidding, and of course I have my own unique way of seeing things, so if you wouldn't mind explaining these points, I would like to understand your perspective. thx

   The partisan warping of reality is just amazing. Some of the same people who spent the last 8 years tearing their hair out and screaming bloody murder at everything and anything the previous administration did are now the same people saying, "Aw, give the guy a chance! Let's all get together and support the President" no matter WHAT the administration does (or doesn't do).

      The FBI already scans your email for key words, and the NSA already scans your phone calls for key words (and voice prints)…so the government signing a deal to LET GOOGLE AND OTHER ADVERTISERS track your movement on .gov websites like they do on EVERY OTHER WEBSITE IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE really isn’t something I’m going to pull my hair out about...

   I'm more annoyed by businesses tracking me. I've noticed that ads are targeted to sites I visit now, even when I'm not on those sites. I do a lot of online research for articles, so if I'm researching, I don't know, buttons--then the next thing I know I'm swamped with button-buying opportunities. It's just a fine-tuning of how it was with advertising before the internet, but it's reached a truly creepy level.

    I'm more than annoyed at the idea of either businesses or the government tracking us, but - I hate to say it - I gave up the idea of privacy a long time ago (not that I think that's great, but the horse has out of the barn for a long time).     These days we're lucky if we can our social security numbers from being posted on a big, public, Internet site.

    Lisa, it's so true. Privacy is over. Anyone who wants to know just about anything about us can, if they put their minds to it. Lucky for me, there isn't anything that interesting about me and no one wants to know. But it is scary to think that if someone did, it would be hard to stop them.
